Let's Shift Again

wearing my renewed shift and shoes
Here's the dress I refashioned to fit this last week.  I had originally made it as a mini dress long, long ago.  For this time around, I opened up the side seams and removed the sleeves to recut them to fit.  I added some side inserts of another electric blue fabric scrap I had on hand.  (It was actually leftover from True Love's summer kimono...) Added some length to the sleeve hem and dress hem with the electric blue fabric, using it all.  But I still wanted pockets.  I spied, on top of my blue scrap pile, this perfect Hawaiian print!  (yes, I have my small scraps of fabric in bins by color).  I had just enough for two big ole patch pockets.  It made me very happy!

I paired the dress with khaki clam diggers that were store bought ages ago.   I'm sure they're called something else now days... and an old brooch worn as a necklace, plus old blue suede slip-ons that I refashioned with a coat of blue glitter glue.

I'm joining others at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style today and Monday Mingle too.  Join us.  Oh, and Recycled Fashion Finds!...

    1. Yea, it doesn't "fit" anywhere, so you can't get any more comfy than that!

  2. So cool, Pao. I only see one added pocket, and I love the hibiscus print. Your artistry in clothing always makes me happy on a Monday : >

  3. Excellent mixing, my friend!

Clamdiggers are now called capris, to get all technical and fashiony on you!

Swatches in bins... someday I will get there. I'm still at heaps in the living room and hallway. I keep getting distracted - like motoring off to my friend's art opening (70 miles away) and THEN going to her house for a sleep-over (an additional 50 miles). The 70 mile commute this morning was no picnic.

    1. Ah, capris sound so much more French..or is it Italian?

That's LA for ya, motoring hither and yon, and the sign of a true friend supporting a compadre at her art opening.

    1. It is an odd print - which is why I like it...

    1. I love organizing things by color, I just can't help it. In this case it really works and makes things so much easier. How do you keep your hats arranged?

  6. I like your shift dress. Is that different fabric on the pocket? I really like that look too.
Love your mix of art and fashion in your blog!

    1. Yes, the pocket is a dif fabric - which is my fav part. I just visited Walking Colors for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'll be back for more for sure!

  7. Cool, comfy, and very functional! Perfect outfit.

I too love the mix of art and fashion - or is that REfashion?

    1. Yes, I think you'd have to classify what I'm doing as REfashioning - at least most of the time. When I do make something from scratch, it's out of my fabric stash - just like you!

  8. What a wonderful print - and the shape of the dress is great - it does remind me of a kimino. Love the tone of electric blue running through it.

    1. Yea, the print is unusual and adding the other fabrics to it just increases the oddness factor, but that's the way I like it. uhuh.

You're latest flamenco dress was absolutely stunning, btw - in that case it's all about fit and attitude I think and you've got that down in spades!

  9. Fabulous re-fashion. I especially love the pockets. I still call them clam diggers! Or pedal pushers and sometimes capris. So many cute names for cropped pants.

    1. Yeah Megan, pedal pushers are the best! So 1950's. Cropped pants does not sound cool, no, uhuh. And pockets, you can never have enough - or is it, you can't do without 'em? Anyway, they're way better than purses...
