Rolling, Rolling...

as in Grant Wood's pastoral scenes.  Style Imitating Art references his painting Young Corn for today's inspiration.

Young Corn by Grant Wood

And here I am planted in the scene:

Sowing My Young Corn
There's more after the break...

Up Close and Cropped

Okay now.   I'm wearing a cocoon-type top I just finished making from a Vogue pattern (I have no idea if it's done correctly, it's so weird).  And there's my refashioned pants into skirt, my diy golden bug necklace, with ebay cowboy boots.

Style Imitating Art will go live tomorrow, Tuesday, so check everyone out then.  Meanwhile I'm going to join the Visibles at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style as well as the crowd at Monday Mingle.

  1. What with the split skirt and the pointy toe boots, you're one hot mama. Keep on sowing.

    1. Yeah, it was a stretch fitting into the country scene.

  2. Look at you, doing an Angelina leg reveal -- hahahaha.
No blending into the scenery for you, my friend!

The cocoon top verrrry intriguing. Who cares if it was sewn correctly? (As long as it stays together!)

    1. Ha, I had to show a little orange-ness. I think that cocoon top "fits" any which way, on any part of the body it can slip, slide onto.

  3. I must say, you are sexy here! I see that bit of pumpkin peeking out amongst the planted corn and I like it!

    2. what shall we swap? I have a grey cowl poncho sweater that would look nice on you. I have two of them and I really don't need both. If you're interested. It's in one of my posts recently.

    3. ooo, ooo. You really mean it? I was just foolin' around in thinking about the outfits we had on that day. Seems like we're getting closer in style at times, don't ya think? I think I would be embarrassed for you to see how unprofessionally I sew.

    1. Hot mustard! That top looks like it could swallow me up at any moment, sort of venus flytrap like..

  6. I like your corn-crop-sewing outfit very much! But I think it is more suitable for sowing strawberries. Check out that tangerine leg!? I loove your cocoon.

    1. Hmmm, pumpkin, mustard and tangerine. The cocoon is quite the concoction. I don't know what it's doing or where it's going, it just feels like it's moving of it's own accord when I'm wearing it.

  7. It looks like you made your cocoon correctly - all that flowey, drapey goodness!

That painting was missing you. Seriously.

I should wear it with those extra baggy pants I recently made - it would look like I was melting...

    1. Notice, no plants were harmed in the making of the picture. Thanks for having us all over for Visible Monday, Patti!

  9. Love your drapey top. Looks successful to me. How's the bra sewing getting on? I'm just finishing a toile.

    1. Argh! I packed it all away for a so-called other time. It seemed so daunting, especially after reading all those comments from others on the flicker page. I couldn't figure out what to use for the toile. How did yours come out? Any major tweaking to do?

  10. You own the pastoral scene! Draped in your cocoon top, showing a little leg and the pointed toe boots! You rule the manor with your beautifully mysterious and creative ways.

    1. That sounds much more poetic through your lens, Judith. I was thinking I totally missed the boat for this one, but gave it a shot, nonetheless. Thanks.

    1. Hehehe. Yes, it certainly drapes and layers and slips and slides - it's practically a living thing the way it envelopes and I get lost inside it. Creepy? Just a little odd, I guess, or unpredictable.

  12. Fabulous skirt! Very ooh-lala. I love the cocoon style top too. I love draped stuff because you can just bundle into it. The balance of top and skirt keeps this looking fresh and fun.

  13. I'm intrigued by the cocoon top. That painting was a tough one to be inspired by, but there you are -- outstanding in your field (sorry, I couldn't resist). I saw that challenge and declined. You're a braver (and more creative) woman than I.
