A Fresh Dress for the Holidays

~ photography by geof kern ~

So nice that you can dress it up or down for whatever the occasion.

In other news, it's been gently snowing since last night and looks so picturesque.

~ out my window ~

~ only 2 inches expected ~

And I'm back at it with THE coat...

~ this time whistling while I work ~

I have one more of these big panels (bigger than my table top) and then I'm off to hand-sewing another set of layers.  An ever smaller lot of them.  woo-hoo.

~ with intermittent breaks to watch the snow fall ~

Ho, ho, ho to each and everyone!

xoxo, pao

  1. I thought at first that was Connie of Snow in the Air as the dancing tree! Hahaha! Watching snow falling is a wonderful pastime. And how gratifying to see the coat's progress. There should be an opera about it. Big chuckles back. xo

    1. Hmm, does Connie have a corner on that tree/ dress market? No, I'm more of a wall flower, stand in the corner kinda tree wearer, myself.
Yes, something with a Philip Glass score, like Einstein on the Beach...perfect. All that endless repetition and slow, monotone counting. Perhaps we could have a bit of you ice skating in the sky with the snow falling gracefully around you. I think it's a hit!

  2. We have had a lot of snow, and then more again today. I must have missed a post about this coat, so I will go back and look. Merry Christmas Pao!

    1. We've hardly had any snow, maybe twice so far this year with very little accumulation - an inch or two. And this is the mid-West! The world is topsy-turvey and that's for sure.

  3. Love how bizarre that christmas tree costume is! I'm also enjoying your snow pics and your progress notes. It's hot day here on the other side of the planet so I'm going to the beach!

    1. oh my, I can't imagine the beach at this point. While it hasn't snowed any more, the temperature has been in the single digits.
I've actually used a 300 yard spool of thread so far in hand-basting/sewing on that coat! I've just gotten to the double welt pockets today (which I've never done before). After all that dread, they really don't seem to be that bad after all. Of course, I'm not exactly finished with them yet...tomorrow.

  5. Ooooohhh!! Believe it or not, this might be one of my favorite posts. I love the glimpse of your workspace, and the sight of you in your gray socks makes me so happy!!! That's pretty much how it is here too, although minus the snow. Maybe this year I'll get to Chicago and we can down copious quantities of hot and cold beverages as we talk upcycling, sewing, art and life. Wishing you much good stuff in 2018. xoxoxo
