What to Wear in the Tropics of Chicago

~ but, I'm cool ~

Yeah, it's humid, with scattered thunder storms, another hot and sunny, 90+ day.

~ like limp-humid, where nothing ever dries ~

~ I am not even thinking 'Fall Sewing' yet ~

~ Yep, I do believe that's a long way off ~

Meanwhile, these are the latest 2 items off the press, so to speak.  I wasn't intending to wear them together...but here we are.    Both items are made from fabric scraps.  And both are from Tina Givens patterns.  The pants are from the Oprah tunic and pants pattern and the top is the Myra pattern from the Sychil 03 magazine.

I'm going to go into some detail with pix and stuff of how I did what, so now's the time to leave, or keep on after the break...

Okay, so I started off with the pants and made them too small.  Why?  Who knows?  But not too, too small.  I added a 1.5" strip on each side seam of the legs (which I really like and am so glad I was forced to do it!)  Each leg is different because that was all I had of that particular fabric.

~ aww, lady bugs ~
~ flowers? ~

FYI, the strips are actually the same size on both legs.

They have lined pockets which I had sewn on with the contrasting print on the outside and it looked horrendous.  I undid it and turned it out so the matching fabric was showing instead. It looks much better.

Because of all the seams right next to each other down the side legs, I covered the area with a nice strip of peach lace.  You can't even see it since it's on the inside of the pants, but, I know it's there.  And then, wouldn't you know it (see), I ended up cuffing them, so you do see it.  ha!

~ lace cover up of inside seam and my ebay sandals ~

On to the Myra top. I used my leftover fabric from the duster of last post.  I luv that fabric.  And this time, I made it way too big!  I didn't do anything to change it, I like big things.  I'll just keep making it smaller with each make I do.  And it only takes 1 1/2 yards of fabric!!!  All those little bits of leftovers - you know what you're going to turn into, don't ya?  yessss.

~  awww ~

(I do believe I must've had too much caffeine.)  This is the simplest pattern, but I luv the design.  And it took me 3 days to make because I had to do flat felled seams (it's so sheer).  And then decided I wanted a wee bit longer sleeve, so I added a 4" or so wedge to that.  I had one more, smaller embroidered flower that I put on the crossing of the neckline.  The larger one ended up on the back of the duster of the same fabric in my previous post here.

You may have noticed the peach colored camisole peaking out from under.

~ I made that ages ago, self-drafted ~

Oh, and I remembered the hat.  I tossed on a length of trim around the brim

~ and la de da ~

And that, my friends, is a wrap.  Except for the fact that I'm rushing on over to Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style, Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like, and Cherie's Shoe and Tell.  Hope to see you there!  Oh, oh!  I have a hat on.  I'm going to Judith's Hat Attack too.

  1. Yes you remembered your hat! I feel your weather pain, as we've got many weeks of 90 degrees ahead. Great look, love the cuffs. xox

    1. Yeah, but seeing you live in Florida, that seems okay. I, myself, have been staying in air con.

    1. Hi Dora, If not cool, at least less hot. I'll be by for a cuppa iced coffee, if I may.

    1. Yes, I know, how soon we forget as soon as the temp changes. If anyone deserves a vacation, you guys do!

  4. Well you certainly look cool even if you don’t feel that way! We’re finally having more reasonable temps here and I can do stuff again without melting. No AC in my house. Darn global weirding (as David Suzuki calls it)!

    1. I couldn't bear it without the room air conditioners. I've got one in my sewing cave and there's another in the bed/sitting room. So al my needs are set! Global weirding is right. or global wronging, global warning...

  5. I spent most of this summer staying inside in the A/C. 90 Degrees does not make me want to move around much. This is the perfect outfit for that kind of heat. The pants are fab!!
