Is This What They Call Slow Fashion?

I've been de-constructing two items:  a pair of capris and an A-line dress.  They both have flat-felled seams, you know, like jeans have.  So its been very slow going.  And I've nothing to show for it...yet.

Plus, I still get exhausted so easily.  It's already been a month since the pneumonia hit and my energy level is way down there.  I'm complaining aren't I?  ah well.  I plod on.

Let's Shift Again

wearing my renewed shift and shoes
Here's the dress I refashioned to fit this last week.  I had originally made it as a mini dress long, long ago.  For this time around, I opened up the side seams and removed the sleeves to recut them to fit.  I added some side inserts of another electric blue fabric scrap I had on hand.  (It was actually leftover from True Love's summer kimono...) Added some length to the sleeve hem and dress hem with the electric blue fabric, using it all.  But I still wanted pockets.  I spied, on top of my blue scrap pile, this perfect Hawaiian print!  (yes, I have my small scraps of fabric in bins by color).  I had just enough for two big ole patch pockets.  It made me very happy!

I paired the dress with khaki clam diggers that were store bought ages ago.   I'm sure they're called something else now days... and an old brooch worn as a necklace, plus old blue suede slip-ons that I refashioned with a coat of blue glitter glue.

I'm joining others at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style today and Monday Mingle too.  Join us.  Oh, and Recycled Fashion Finds!...

Making a Shift

I've been sewing nearly every day this week on a refashion to fit, made-from scratch shift.  Now there's a mouthful.  a RFMFS shift.  Better?

painting by Anita Dominoni.

It seemed to be tough going, but I am actually quite pleased with the final outcome.  It was the big patch pockets that did it for me.  Quite unexpected they were.  But that's how creative sewing is, you never know what's going to come out of the hat next - so to speak.  I'm going to wear it for the last day of my class tomorrow.

On the Sunny Side of the Street

Me on "Early Morning Sunday" by Edward Hopper.
Okay, here I am, standing on the sun lit street of Hopper's "Early Sunday Morning," casting a long shadow of my own.

Time Is On My Side

Yes it is.  I was able to get into my studio and sew for the first time since my birthday (and pneumonia) 2 weeks ago.  yea!   At first I just sat in there with my head resting on the chair, I was still so tired.

painting by Laura James.

But after awhile I couldn't help myself and starting sewing on something that was just about finished.    And I completed it!!!!  An Asian-esque top I had refashioned to fit by adding side inserts and changing the sleeves up a bit.

I feel so happy...

Color Me July

in turq and tange.

Getting dressed today for color blocking at Everybody Everywear.  Simple.  My recently rehabbed tangerine capris and an old turquoise cotton embroidered top bought long ago.  The color combo reminds me of something, but I can't quite think of what...60's diner countertops...?

Check out everyone, it looks like fireworks of color!

A Day In

me and my kimono.
Resting at home in my homemade reversible kimono.  I love how the color gradually moves from dark burgundy through rose into taupe.  The kimono and obi were made before Project Minima started.

A vest, pants and tank top were also made to match and lately refashioned to fit.  View them in various arrangements on the clothes collage page or click on the individual item to view their re-making.

Meanwhile, I'm hooking up with the other Visibles at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style before my next nap.

Just Breathe

breathw
"Breath," Prismacolor pencil drawing by Pat Otto.

The Tao is the breath that never dies.
It is Mother to all creation.

- Tao Te Ching

I am on the mend from my mid-week hospital visitation and subsequent diagnosis of pneumonia.  Breathing.  Sleeping.  Coughing.  Gatorade.  Repeat.  breathing...rest...breathing...rest...so simple, so complete...
