I'm wearing my Mom's old sweater that has been mended by me in several places, my made-from-scratch kimono dress as translated from the I Am Cute Dresses Japanese Sewing Book and then altered, houndstooth tights from Sheila's swap, red shoes that have a whole story of their own (no I didn't just buy them, I found them!), and a very old silver pocket necklace that I pinned a gifted beaded ladybug brooch onto. phew.

ReplyDeleteI bet you just love wearing that hand me down repaired sweater. I love cozy things like that. I had a favorite sweater once, if you remember those Native American sweaters so popular in the 70's? I took the bus down town in high school and spent all my money on one. Then, being the overly generous person I am sometimes I gave it to someone who looked cold! Now I'm lusting for one again. Maybe a Christmas present to myself this year? We'll see....
It is a story, perhaps for another post. I'm so behind on getting out into the bloghood lately.
DeleteYes, a present for yourself is always a good idea. Actually I think this may be the only sweater I have. I don't really care for them, I have sweatshirt material sweater things, and jackets, vests, etc. No sweaters are too...something...about them...hmm, probably too cozy. snort!

I'm a big fan of houndstooth - I like the contrast of the big houndstooth against the softer print of the kimino.

The other day, I was momentarily despairing that I'm the only person I know (in real life) who wears really old, mended clothes. So, thanks for making me realize, I'm not alone and help me remember that I'm glad that I'm 'making do.'
ReplyDeleteNo way, I'm so into redoing my old clothes and not buying anything, used or new. Hmmm, do I know any real live people who do that? Well, Frau Fiber...I have friends that sew their own clothes, and others that thrift, and a few that will mend and/or refashion. YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN MAKING DO, MY FRIEND.

ReplyDeleteOkay, so you know I'm a little scattered. You FOUND THOSE DOCS?!!! WHY CAN'T I FIND MINE?!!! What's your secret? I had a cherished pair in the early 80's. Oh.... they're probably in my ex-husband's basement.... Duh. Oh well, they're probably mildewed by now. What's that Aesop's fable about sour grapes? Some stories, just like Docs, are timeless.

DeleteI love the shapes, prints, and textures of this outfit. The kimono dress is so amazing. Some of the most incredible DIY's I've ever seen have been revamped kimono. My favorite kimono refashion was of one of the black ones with the pattern on the bottom remade into a beautifully cut long men's "suit" jacket.

No problemo with "lateness" - who's keeping time?! Yes, you are the tights woman. Oh can you believe it, once upon a time I had one of those over the door shoe pocket hanger thingys. And in it I kept all my colored tights in color wheel order. And one day I decided I didn't want to wear colors anymore and I donated them all to Sal. Army!!!!!!!!! I regret it daily. Now these are the only "wild" pair I have...sniff.
