Yes. I purchase a new-to-me pair of shoes/ boots from e-bay and made a coat recently. Back at it apparently. Here's the latest:

The coat (well, jacket, actually) I made a few months ago, but never got to posting it. I really like it a lot too, but see for yourself. Made from fabric in my stash going back nearly 20 years!!!

| copper-colored organza sewn diagonally at half inch intervals, then slashed opened in between the stitched lines to reveal the velvet beneath. |

ReplyDeleteHey Megan, The brand is "J" marked with a scripted J and the style is called "Easy." The size was mislabeled as 7 when the dimensions were really for an 8. yea for me.

I love it..."back at it apparently". That's a good sign, shoes and sewing. Always works for me. I've been contemplating a Project Minima type commitment since I need to jump-start my sewing again. You are always, always a source of inspiration. The coat is so cool and I love the slashes. I was looking at a slashed t-shirt the other day where the strips were then woven basket-style across the front. Very cool. I also adore your "slashed" shoes. AND the painting is beautiful. Thank you for all that you share. Made my day.

DeleteRight, as Jean pointed out, slashed shoes and coat. Great groove. If I tried that technique I would have cut right through the velvet as well. You not only look fantastic in your coat but it is also functional - bonus. Your shoes (boots) are fun. And the Grigorian painting is hauntingly beautiful. I'm glad you're in motion again.

DeleteThank you, Pao. I'm often out of step with my big-box scores, but that seems to be my dressing challenge. You know I like clothes to do a lot of talking for me, but the deal is to make cheap stuff say smart things. A lot to ask of discount clothing, but if you don't challenge them, they will just lay around, taking up space!
DeleteYou are obviously one of the Seamstresses that I celebrated in my most recent blog post - that coat is wonderful!! The shoes are rather awesome and look like they might actually fit my bunion-enhanced feet. I'm always afraid to buy shoes online but I probably would have taken a chance with those babies.
ReplyDeleteThey actually weren't even my size, but they looked so smashing I couldn't help myself from inquiring as to their actual measurements. Lo and behold, they were miss-marked and turned out to be the perfect fit!!! Another 'how the universe provides' story... And to be a celebrated seamstress, oh my.
