Behind the Times with Tablecloth Dress #5

Yes, I've several dresses made that haven't been posted, let along photo-ed yet.   So let's get caught up so I can get back to the future, shall we?

Tablecloth Dress #5
It's rather sweet, innit?  It couldn't be helped, coming right after the elephant dress and being that it was a lightweight, scalloped, pink floral embroidered kind of tablecloth from a church rummage sale.

I just went with it.  In fact, it was so expansive, I used the entire cloth for the dress and didn't have to mix and match like I usually do.  That was a first.

Here's a couple in process pix for your viewing pleasure:

To see the dress in detail, go to my Clothes for Summer page.   And stay tuned for more as soon as I pause from sewing and start photo-ing.

No close ups of the pig shoes as I call them.  They're my everyday wear and from the front, they look just like little pigs.  awww.

    1. awww, thanks Patti. This one makes me teeter a bit with it's sweetness. But what could I do, that's the nature of this baby?!

    1. I'm nowhere near the end of them! This particular series, yes. But tablecloth couture, no way.

  3. Swoosh! What another stunning tablecloth dress. Thanks for showing the design details on the other page as well - the appliques are perfect. I wondered from this photo how you placed them. Again, the fabric and style are just right for summer and you look like a million bucks, especially with those cute piggy shoes. Ha. Do your little piggies eat roast beef and go to the market?

    1. Actually the only appliques I did on this one are center back at shoulder and waist. All the others fell in line by the way the pattern pieces were placed. Those two areas were left blank so I added 'em. As for the pig shoes, they're vegetarians and pretty much stay home.

  4. I'm giggling over the piggy shoes. :o) The scalloped hem is so pretty, it makes the dress almost delicate.

    1. Those pig shoes! It was the scalloped edge of the tablecloth, so why cut it off, you know? Luckily it was large enough to use it as such with a little finagling.

  5. The first photo is very impressive, beautiful and yes, very sweet. I love it! I just had a vision of a group of bloggers, all wearing your tablecloth dresses! What a line-up.

    1. What a vision! Actually, when I was wearing this one at a coffee shop, someone approached me and blah, blah, blah, asked about having my tablecloth dresses in a fashion show at her studio. She's a costume designer. We'll see...

  6. I am amazed at the careful appliqué placement! Thanks for showing the back. Am I right in thinking you reduced the pocket drape with a button pleat? And your piggy shoes bring it back from the land of sickly sweet into the land of adorable ;-) XO JJ

    1. You are so observant, Jazzy. Yes, I've put buttons on the pockets of this dress and the one before, the elephant/ endangered species dress. I also change the meeting point of the skirt to top at the back on each one as I haven't decided what I like best. Some have piping on the pocket edge or top stitching. Some are pieced in center front or back or wherever I run out of fabric.

The applique is where it lay on the tablecloth originally and was considered in placing the pattern pieces. I only cut out 2 appliques to sew on after the fact in blank spaces on the center back shoulder and waist areas.

      A day without pig shoes...

  7. Wow, the pattern placement and scalloping and applique and edging are all so fine! Another excellent addition to this excellent series of dresses. And I love those shoes, I would be imagining little oinking sounds the whole time. :)

  8. So much viewing pleasure in here! It is a very sweet dress, I can imagine how it must feel on. I have a similar tablecloth which was my ex mother-in-law's so it would be perfect to cut into. ;) I think I'll save it just for this use and when I get better at sewing I'll give it a go.

Now that you're caught up and into the future it's time for me to post my robe!
