The ULTIMATE Dress

...and a traditional Thanksgiving portrait.

~ in the sun-drenched library ~

It's a golden brown flannel shirt plus a plaid tablecloth with roosters on it.  Oh my.  Dear Reader, Dare I say more?  Yes, yes, yes!

I am simply beside myself with this dress, the 4th of the flannel shirt recons.  It was my old shirt.  The tablecloth was given to me and is a heavy weight woven.  The armlets are made from the 2 pieces of silk brocade cut from the center front of the yellow flannel shirt dress.  The shoulder caps are scraps of embossed velveteen trimmed with lace.

Here I am in the light (& wind) of day

ooo, see that silky slip showing?  I made it from some sari fabric that was given to me.  It really was trashed, but I managed to salvage a portion to make a full slip that peaks out at the hemline.  You can see it up close on my Clothes from Fall page, along with the flannel shirt dress, in detail.

The fabric scraps necklace is one of many made previously, and the very cool boots/ shoes are from ebay.  I'll be joining Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style when the time is right.  I'm early for once.  See you all there.

Hey, Sacramento is having Share-in Style: Plaid.  You just can't miss that.  Ooo, and Rhonda's Me Made Monday is back, so check out all the sew sisters.

Linking up to Spy Girl's 52 Pick-me-up: Amber way in the future.  Check it out!

    1. Oh that's Tiki cat I'm bothering. He's lying on his lion pillow. You can barely see the lion head smished into the back of the chair. That white blob on the white table is actually his brother, Ronde. He's zonked out, drenched in sunlight.

    1. I'm a sewing nut. I forgot to mention, my true love took the photos - no grainy mirror jobs this time. But it feels very awkward...
Thanks for hosting Patti. You deserve a dress a month, at least!

  3. Yes, that is the ULTIMATE dress. Any dress that shall come after it will pale in it's shadow. I love how you piece together different fabrics; the whole is always greater than the sum of it's parts.

    1. Yes, I'm full of gestalt. Oh no, you mean I've reached nirvana and plateaus will follow? I only meant Ultimate in terms of teaming my 2 favs together: flannel shirts and tablecloths. I'll stumble across some other excitable thing(s), surely...

    1. awk! but it's so awkward standing there while someone is taking your picture. geez. And you feel obligated to smile because you feel so silly, especially outdoors. Meanwhile I'm just making do with what I have, both the fabric scraps and the body bits.

  5. Every time I see that you've made a new dress I get more excited than if there were a pan of chocolate chip cookies coming out of the oven. And that is VERY excited just so you know. This is really and truly and autumnal masterpiece. I love the sari slip underneath. You look very happy as well you should be.

  8. Yup. It's everything ... really a dress to be thankful for! Those sleeves and the peek at the bottom ... did you mean it to be a romantic masterpiece? Is it all attached, or will you wear the pinafore part alone as a dress this summer ? Along with that gratitude, your skills and creativity and general fierceness are items to be remembered in your thankful-for list!
( I'd call your fabulous footwear Bootie-Janes, yes?)

    1. Nah, I was just trying to use up my stash and have fun along the way. After all, I'm the boss of my sewing, right?! This is one piece, except for the sari underslip. Bootie-Janes are fine, as long as it doesn't get mixed up with bootie as in Beyonce, I'm cool.
