The Most Awesome Unflattering Dress, Yes!

I worked long and hard on this one, ladies.  From an Issey Miyake pattern, so you know what I mean.

~ oh, where do I start...~

Well, the shoes and socks certainly add a little je ne sais quois, now don't they?

~ real close up ~

It's summery looking.  And middle-aged preggo-looking.  But I do love the fabrics I put together.  That's yellow polka dot voile (so soft and thin), turquoise printed cotton, and turquoise tulle overlaid,   I had the last two pieces in my stash.

~ a bit more unflattery ~

~ and awesomeness of design ~

Korean peasant dress meets futuristic apocalyptic fashion, maybe...
Back pieces also from my stash, including the embroidered tablecloth.  The piece beneath that is actually pale gray chevrons, but you can't really make it out.

Oh, don't forget the secret socks...

~ they say 'STAY AWAY FROM A88HOLES' on the vamp ~

Just between you and me, eh?

  1. Fabulous! I find that flattering is frequently something I choose to abandon. I too love the fabrics you chose here. Those sandals are great, too; what is their origin?

    1. Abandoning flattering sounds like a good motto. The sandals are Faryl Robin from ebay, but of course.

  2. Flattering is overrated, I'd go for fabulous every time!

  4. One less strap and you could see the secret message.

  5. As I approach 60, I say - let us stop bowing down to the god of Flattery and instead worship at the altar of Expressing Ourselves. I am happy to see that your shoe mojo is still going strong.

    1. Amen to that! Well the mojo failed me today when I received my Irregular Choice, pale yellow, high top, canvas sneakers with the tabi toe. Alas and alack, they're too big. My toes don't even make it to the toe split. pout. ah well.

  6. Loving yellow with turquoise ...and random other bits!
Somehow your artistic eye grabs the core of these and wrestles the sense into them.
Abandoning flattery over here too. Let's start a movement!
Experimenting with Lisa Givens Plicka Pants from your inspiration.

    1. I don't know what's going on, but I haven't been able to get to your site for a long time. First I could, but couldn't leave comments. But now I can't even get there at all. I even tried to leave an email msg., but that didn't fly either. argh.

  7. I love that dress, especially the layers in the back. What exactly does flattering really MEAN anyway? Just another marketing. If you're happy in your clothes then everyone else should be happy too!

    1. Now there's the attitude with gusto. I must admit, it's a happy dress alright.

    1. If I'm gonna make it, I'm gonna wear it. Now let's see what drawsshootsandleaves is about...

  9. It has a very Asian flair to it, which is appropriate considering the pattern. Love the socks and sandals combo. I've actually been admiring those socks on a website for awhile! Swoon.

  10. Very Japanese vibe going on with the dress - I like it! Yeah, sometimes "flattering" is over-rated. I am really digging the sandals - where are they from?

    1. Sandals are Faryl Robin from ebay last summer. Hey, I'm going to be in Toronto this weekend, but just for a layover in the airport. Too bad you're not doing the Vancouver thing...

  11. I love your posts! My summer has been so busy and I have missed your art, writing and fabulous designs. Gorgeous fabric and layers, as always. xo

  12. I can tell when someone has a more advance sense of fashion than me (which is 85% of women) because they put things together that would never occur to me. Like these fabrics. They combine with brio. I would never have thought to do that.
