Candid Lola Shots with a Tiki Chaser Dress

CAUTION:  The following post contains images of a night dress, interaction with a kitty cat and a big vent at the end. 

~ Good Morning Tiki Cat ~

I am wearing a modified night dress made from Tina Givens Lola Dress pattern.  

~ awww, give us a kiss ~

I made it out of fabric I didn't much care for, sort of like a test drive for a night gown.  The amount of fabric required says 54" wide is needed when only 45" or less is fine.  You're instructed (and shown in the diagram) to cut 2 front pattern pieces on the fold.  After you've already cut 1 back pattern piece (that's identical to the front) on the fold.   There are some errors here.

The pattern piece is too wide at the bodice but too narrow at the arm hole/ sleeve area.  I made adjustments and added longer, wider sleeves.  I also add side seam pockets.

2 Slips,1 Dress

~ I'm wearing all handmade or secondhand stuff ~

When I finished the Violet Dress, I didn't have a slip short enough to wear with it (yet).  So I layered it over my Briare Slip/ Dress and thought it looked fine.

~ with an old abalone pin I've had around ~

Violet is made from thin linen, almost a gauze.  I placed green tulle over the center panel to change the color/ texture.   Then I accidentally melted it while ironing the pleated part with steam.  Hence the lace bits and bobs.  Worked a charm.

Made from broadcloth and modified.  Only 1 skirt layer, pockets added, and pleats instead of ruffles.

Champagne and Coral Dress

~ that's how the fabric was described ~

and I liked the first dress so much, I made it again.

~ Vogue 1482 ~

This time from a very thin crinkle champagne polyester with a coral cotton jacquard woven flower.  It feels like air.

~ I do believe I'm getting to be quite subtle ~

I made it in a larger size this time.  I didn't want to risk any side seams splitting when I sat down.  You know, with such a delicate fabric.  Which made it a bit longer too.

Of course, she demanded her very own slip to go with.  So I made one out of a mystery bundle of fabric I'd received.  I don't know exactly what the fabric is, other than a thin knit with a bit of a sheen.  Looks kinda like something that would line a bathing suit.

Anyway, it's a very plain slip and took awhile to make since I didn't have a pattern.  I had to try it on, do something, try it on, etc.  I don't even have a picture of it.  hmmm...

Hug A Tree Dress

~ Hi, you caught me in the act! ~

It was really hot out.  And the air con was not functioning in my room at school, nor do the windows open.

So that shady tree looked real inviting...

~ mmmmm ~

The dress is a lovely cotton print made into Vogue 1400 designed by Guy Larouche.  Basically a shirt dress with a few twists.  Like no buttons, collar or cuffs; a deep front and back slit opening which I raised a bit; cargo-like front chest pockets; and side seam pockets.  Oh and peek-a-boo shoulders which I didn't even notice on the pattern until I started sewing.

Nor will you see the peek-a-boos in my pictures either.  Apparently even the photographer missed them.  Ah well. 

I made the necklace out of bits and pieces awhile ago.
