But what I was really going to post about was the trials and tribulations of the new coat I'm making: Pamela Roland's Vogue 1332.

Has anyone done this one before? oh my.
That's my coat fabric on the right and my lining on the left (hand quilted, by the way). It has so many layers of fabric! Plus batting, the organza as interlining and sew-in interfacing. And each layer is hand-basted around the perimeter of each pattern piece. All the pattern markings and stitching construction are marked with tailor tacks (thread) on each layer or each piece. Something like that.
It is taking me forevah! I guess that's okay. I only hope it fits/looks good after all.
p.s. I'm wearing my workout clothes in the pix. yeah. oh, the top is a translation of Tina Givens Juliana top pattern and the pants are from her Phoebe pattern.
This coat will be a masterpiece!!!

I I remember when that pattern came out. It's very cool and teenage mutant ninja turtle-ish. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product. I think there may be a review on Sewing Pattern Review.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do think it looks like a turtle, or some kind of insect. I saw the review and she said it was good for beginners!!! But then she used pre-quilted lining and no organza interlining, so that's several layers less with no hand-basting. I think the actual sewing together of the coat is not difficult. Oh, but there's double welt pockets! Something I've never done before...

DeleteI bought that pattern when it came out. I pull the envelope out of the coat pattern box, it rides the table for awhile, and then I put it back in the box. I got nothin. I want to find the perfect copper bug fabric, and then I'll crack it (I do confess the yardage #s are in my phone list, so it's a real definite maybe).

Bug fabric would be great. So far I've been procrastinating (or gearing up for it), but I can feel it coming on.

The latest is I've been standing up at a table that's about waist high. So much more comfortable for long bouts of hand-sewing that's supposed to lay flat.

I wish I had a sewing cave! Part of the reason I haven't gone all gung ho on the sewing is that I have hardly any space in which to work. That coat looks so cool - I love the shape, and your fabric choices. I think we could all use a grey organza filter some days ;)
ReplyDeletePerhaps you could just go whole hog and turn your entire place into a sewing cave. hmmm? Plus your cat will luv it. I'm thinking of making a grey organza head covering/face covering hat thingy. Perfect for us mature women.
