What I Wore to Work Out

~ No kidding ~

Well, I did change my shoes for the event.  But honestly, my workout shoes are some old flat-soled silver Trippens.

~ Yes, it's all very comfy ~

The kimono top and pants were made way before Project Minima started.   Simplicity 4291 for the top.  The pants are just slip on, elastic waist, nothing special.

~ voila ~

I made the undershirt recently out of stretch mesh.  A modification from a simple Vogue pattern, V8450.

~ and some good ole Docs from ebay ~

Meanwhile,  I'll be at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style to party with the Visibles, Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like and Cherie's Shoe &Tell.  Hope to see you all there!.

In other news...
I've been working like crazy on those bugs.  Beetles to be exact.  I am

officially fascinated with embroidering them.  And I was just doing that nearly all day, every day.  Trying to get enough to decorate THAT coat.

But I had to stop, or pause.  It started to feel like a production line.  I was trying to hurry so I could get them done and wear THAT coat before winter was over.  And you know, you just can't hurry embroidery.

And then I wore THAT coat a few times in this ridiculous cold weather we're having in Chicago.  Like 6 degrees forever.  Guess what?  THAT coat is no way warm enough.  So the bugs can wait.  I can take my time and do the kind of work I really want to do in embroidering them.   I am still so excited about it.

In fact, just check out my pinterest beetle board.  Beautiful.

And here are some poor excuses of stitchin' bugs I've done.  I like 2 and 2 are unacceptable.  I want to do much better ones...

~ bug #1 ~

Now they're stuffed and have 3-D eyes.  The gray fabric surrounding them won't end up being there/ showing when they get sewn on.  They are big.   Each circle on the fabric they're sitting on is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

~ bug #2 ~

By the way, I don't know how to embroider.  I'm just making up how to stitch as I go.  I mean, what's the big deal?  These are amateur bugs.

~ bug #3 ~

He's been rehabbed twice already...

~ ugh bug #4 ~

Total loser.  I used variegated sewing thread, rather than embroidery floss on this one, so it took even longer.  What was I thinking?

So after my bug hiatus, it'll be back to the drawing board.

  4. You’re brightening up the snowy landscape! Love your gorgeous beetles. Let them take as long as they take and your coat can be an ongoing project, still wearable in the meanwhile, right?

    1. Yeah, you're so right, Louisa. I can wear the coat bugless meanwhile. When it's above freezing, that is.

  5. Please come to Vancouver in that outfit. Right now! Hahaha! Your bugs are stupendous, also proving that you don't know how to embroider to be sooo good at it.

  6. I love your workout outfit! So very much more appealing than the ubiquitous skin-tight plastics.
The real bugs are amazing and I love your embroidered ones too. I think the last one in variegated thread is lovely! It's really beautiful just as it is. Maybe you've just seen enough of it for now, after so much miniscule work. If anything, it looks, in comparison to the others, as though you plan to add further embellishment to it, maybe more definition with some darker or metallic thread joint-lines; only in that, that would bring it more in line with the others. I am SO excited about your bugcoat!

    1. Yes! I just wear what I already have that'll work. Heaven forbid I'd make t-shirts and whatever those things are called.

I know, aren't those real bugs fantastic?! It's true, I wore myself out (and my hands/ fingers) with the hand-stitchin' beetle marathon. But I'll be back. And yeah, that last one certainly does need a little more something something. Thanks for the feedback, Radostin.

  8. I LOVE these embroidered bugs!! For someone who says they don't know how to embroider, they look great to me! Was that kimono top pattern pretty easy to make? I would like to try something like that.

    1. Bugs! I'm still into them. I made that kimono years and years ago. It may not be the easiest thing to start with since it has the holes at the armpit, plus it's lined. But then again, what do you have to lose? On the other hand, there are so many really straight forward kimono patterns out there to try. Just take a gander online...
