What Have They Done to My Blog?!

in the middle of MeMadeMay'18, Day 28

~ please help if you can ~

Seems blogspot changed a few things 10 days ago without telling any of us bloggers.  I was wondering why I no longer received any emails when bloggers I follow posted on their blogs.  Nor any emails when I received comments on my posts.

Well, it seems even worst than that.  They discontinued whatever OpenID is, and from what I can tell, people can't comment unless that join Google+.  I'm not even a member of Google+.  I'm not a member of most things.  I just like to keep it really simple but I won't go into that now...

I went into my blogspot settings and tried to change a few things, but I don't know if it made any difference.  I'm refusing to join Google+.  Maybe I'll have to change platforms, or whatever they're called, and go to Wordpress???

~ comment here and let me know that you can ~

I don't know how you can if you can't...you know?  Maybe through bloglovin'?

Also, please advise about what you've done or are doing about all this techie stuff.  Like ability to comment, blog platforms, etc.   I don't want to join facebook, instagram, twitter, disquis, google+, or whatever.

Thanks in advance.  I'll really appreciate it.

Maybe it's just time to stop.

But first, shoes.

Oh, and I have on two Tina Givens garments made in lightweight linen.  On top is her Violet Dress Pattern.  Underneath is her Sugar Slip Pattern.  Both with some modifications.

    1. Thanks Anonymous. That's one of the things I changed on the blog settings - allowed anonymous comments to counteract the demand for only google+ commenters. Did that make a difference for you in commenting?

    2. Your blogs are a ray of sunshine. I'm happy that you are in the world. Please keep simply blogging.

    3. ooo, I'm getting my Anonymouses all mixed up. Thanks for your ray of sunniness in the midst of my befuddlement.

  2. It as the only way I could reply. I have no Google account, don't want one and I have no idea what my URL is. Anyway I am your biggest fan in Alabama

    1. Ok, good to know. I'm glad that enabled you to comment. I thoroughly dislike when they try to force membership for anything. Glad to know you Alabama Anonymous.

  3. I am a Google+ member just because of my Youtube channel. Seems I can post here. But I am not receiving some notifications in my blogger reading list, for Suzanne for instance, for the last two months.
    It's all too confusing.
On a lighter note, your shoes are what I search for each summer and never find. Great find! Your dress looks lovely and cool.
    Keep standing up for yourself!

    1. Yeah, I no longer receive any emails from anyone that comments here, or from any bloggers I follow. It is confusing and frustrating.
Standing up for yourself. Something you do so well.

  4. I get a daily update via email from Bloglovin'about any new posts put up by bloggers I follow (on Bloglovin') which includes you. I knew that some changes had been made quite a while ago which didn't allow people to follow my blog via google anymore so I switched over to Bloglovin.

That dress would be my "go to" summer dress, especially since our temperatures have soared to the 90's in the last few days.

    1. hmm. I'm on Bloglovin', but I haven't been getting the email updates anymore from bloggers I follow. I wonder if it's anything to do with being located in Canada vs the U.S.?

Yeah, the same thing has happened here, weather-wise lately.

  5. I haven’t been able to post comments on your blog for a while so I hope now I will be able to. I enjoy your blog, your style - especially footwear and your sense of fun. I hope you keep blogging!

    1. Hi Helen, I guess whatever blogspot did is why you haven't been able to post. Can you say what exactly they were doing so I know? Were they trying to make you join google+ or something? I did switch my setting from OpenID to anonymous when they said they were getting rid of OpenID.

I'm glad you enjoy the blog and my clothes and happy you're able to say so now!

  6. hmmm...well the comment box for me defaults to Google. It doesn't say Google+ and I don't think I have Google+.

I switched over to a self hosted wordpress blog a few years ago because I was frustrated with changes that were unannounced. To be honest it was a pain to switch all my blog over and it isn't perfect on the other side.

With respect to bloglovin'...they've been having issues too. Have you checked your profile to be sure you are listed to be receiving email notifications still?

    1. Hi Sue, I remember when you switched over. I can image it would be a real pain.

Yeah, I've check and re-checked my profile on both bloglovin' and blogspot. I made the changes I mentioned on the later. But I'm still listed to receive emails from bloglovin' and I'm not getting any. Are they talking about their issues anywhere? I sent a "help" message to them about it.

    2. For the most part, they've been pretty helpful if I have an issue. That being said, the followers data hasn't worked for several months for many users. They say they're working on it, but really...how long can it take? It's a free service which kind of boggles my mind....how DO they get paid?...so I don't complain. When they do 'upgrades' or make changes, I've never seen any announcements about them.

    3. Bloglovin' never answered my help msg. directly, but I did start receiving emails 2 days ago. But only from bloggers I follow when they post and when I post on my blog. Still no email alerts when someone comments on my blog. Perhaps that's in Goggle/Blogspot's territory?

I think they all get paid, so to speak, through advertisers/marketing.

  7. I enjoy all your posts but have been unable to comment (until now!). Love the ability to post as 'anonymous' - Mary in PA.

    1. Hi Mary in PA. I had no idea that not having anonymous stopped people from being able to post. I put it up long ago to stop all the spam I was getting. So far so good. Glad you were able to come on through now!

  8. I have a google ID (but not +) and my ability to comment on blogs has been really flakey lately. Sometimes no problem; sometimes nothing I do works. Today was a good day!

    1. I don't have google ID (that I know of!). All this stuff makes me crazy. I mean I don't even have a cell phone or a car that tells me what to do. yuck.

  9. My two cents, Wordpress made my brain hurt. I ended up going with Square. I think Tumblr is still around, though, and free and pretty easy--good for visual bloggers and if you aren't planning on selling stuff on your site. good luck and keep us posted. I wouldn't want to lose track of you. You fill me with so much sewing and stylin' inspiration!

    1. hmmm, I haven't heard of Square. Nah, I don't sell anything so nothing to worry about there. Well, I'm still on pinterest. I wouldn't just disappear. Not unless they disappeared me first. Glad to be an inspirator!

  10. PS I use Feedly to stay up to date on favorite blogs and site posts. So far it works really well (kind of like a reader's digest of blog posts).

    1. Thanks Elizabeth, I'll check Feedly out if Bloglovin' doesn't get it back together soon.

  11. I have just assumed that the part where I have to log in over and over and over again to everything on my computer is my SyOpsSpouse's doing. But this does explain the OpenID messages I keep getting at the top of my post list and ignoring. Mostly I want to make sure I keep the ads out of the old post comments. I have been backing up the blog on my spare drive so that when the inevitable line has been crossed, I can just dump and keep going.
And I still love that dress you have on. Spring stripes!

    1. ai-yi-yi. I haven't backed up my blog! Something else to worry about. My computer is automatically backed up, but I don't think that includes the blog per se. sigh.

Yes it's great for our sudden 90+ weather.

  12. Technology, huh? I read blogs via Bloglovin' - I don't sign up for email alerts or anything like that, my inbox is already too full every morning.
I keep getting messages that people can't comment on my blog, I don't know what else i can do but allow anonymous comments and delete the endless spammers. I need a teenager to come and explain things.
On a bright not that's an ace outfit and the shoes are gorgeous. xxx

    1. Hi Vix, not being in the big league, my inbox isn't at capacity just yet, so I like getting the email alerts! What I can't abide is forcing people into membership or they cannot comment. You're either in or you're out. That's not cool.

This is another outfit I've never worn together before, duh.

  13. Don't stop! I am so much happier with wordpress. I have the simple, no-cost option, and blogging is so much easier. They've made the change-over really simple.

    1. Good to know that option exists, Coco.
Still no email notifications when anyone comments on the blog...

  14. Noooooo, don't stop. I have a couple of simple poorly updated blogs on Wordpress, it works fine, nothing fancy. I was signed up with bloglovin but OMG I got tons of crap all the time that I didn't want from them. I have a google ID but not Plus as far as I know. Let's see what happens when I post this comment. Oh yeah, about the clothes, great great .... I bought a printed tablecloth here in france today and plan to overdye and make a tunic .... your inspiration beh oui.

    1. ooo, I just found your comment, bonnie. Glad you were able to post. The problem seems to be that I no longer get any email notices when people do comment.

You can go to your account on bloglovin' and checked "no" for all the junk mail they send out and it seems to work fine. I have it set so I only receive email when someone I follow posts on their blog or when I post on my blog.

Have fun with your tablecloth tunic-making!

    1. Glad to be an inspirator and I'm still blogging so far. Still no email when anyone comments so I guess that's just done. But I am getting notices when people I follow put up their posts. So that's good.
