One With the Fallen Leaves

Yep, I have the perfect coat for standing beside them.

Made out of embossed velvet.  mmmm.

Previously seen here.

~ and my newly made dress ~

It's Tina Givens Nani Lee Dress pattern made in cotton twill (with orange thread going one way and olive green going the other way).  It's really quite lovely, but none of the pictures came out.  So this is as good as it gets.  Modifications made were:  longer sleeves, added side-seam pockets, lower bust darts, higher waistline in the back, and longer length hem.

Heading on over to Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style, then Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like when she goes live.  Come on by, won't you?

    1. I do think a splash of red can spice things up.

    1. I rarely wear it because it's so darn dramatic. But today was the day.

  3. So much to be gleeful about. That cocoon eats up the yardage (the BIG pieces) and it either works for you (me) or it doesn't (my sister, who wept, as it was her dream coat for a decade). However, the miracle YOU have made is that dress, as I didn't see the potential in the bodice for that dress the way you have (the skirt was too distracting for me). It's a whole new beautiful obsession to sew for me now. Ooh la la. And I'll bet you all the donuts of National Donut Day that dress fabric would like a closeup photo because I know the challenge and delight of that weave.
It's all just so yummy. You're a gift.

    1. Okay, here's what the fabric looks like up close from my pinterest page https://www.pinterest.com/pin/545005992407911938/
Believe it or not, I made the dress in a size XS! But then again, if you're familiar with TG you know how oversized they can be. I believe she calls for 5 yards, but I used less than 2 1/2. Perhaps pants are on the way...

  4. That coat is sensational! And yes, what a perfect backdrop you've chosen. How clever of you to pair it up with that matching dress. Lovely x

    1. The coat stole the show alright. Poor little plain dress couldn't stand up to it. She'll be back, that's for sure.

  5. Fabulous coat. Great outfit. Just the right amount of drama to complement the plainer dress with its pop of red. The coat wouldn't go amiss for a night at the opera especially with that scarf. Have always ogled the Poiret coat pattern but never bought maybe now is the time.

    1. Yes, a night at the opera would be perfection. Oh do make it, you never know when you might need some drama.

  6. I love the dramatic velvet evening coats from the early 1900's and this is a beautiful modern version. In contrast, I also really like the contemporary, clean shape of the dress.

    1. I'm planning many more of the Nani Lee dress. Signal red corduroy is next up I think.
