In and Out of Focus

...or Dry brushed?
Diffused glow?

That is the ?

I'm wearing the tunic top I refashioned to fit several weeks ago and carrying a clutch bag I made out of a Modern Painters magazine awhile back.  I was on quite a kick with those things.  You can see a bunch of them on my art website under Oddments, and then Accessories.  The capris, clogs and sunglasses are all very old and originally store bought.

Check out the Modern Painters clutch after the jump:

To make the clutch, I used a product called Thermoweb, (a transparent vinyl that is ironed on to fabric or whatever) to make the magazine cover more durable, cleanable and hold the side vents together.

side vents are accordian-folded two-sided images bonded to the body of the clutch with thermoweb

The title of the magazine is conveniently located at the top of its cover, and is folded down as the closure of the clutch.  I used sticky velcro as the fastener.  All sides (inside and out) are first thermowebbed.
And the groovy front side with Takashi Murakami's artwork on the cover.  I tell ya, it goes with anything!

I chose the cover because it was cool, of course, but also the stock is thicker than the interior pages and will therefore last longer.

I'll be with the Visibles on Patti's Not Dead Yet Style and Monday Mingle.  Check it out.
And I'm with others at Recycled Fashion Finds and Refashion Co-op!

    1. It comes in rolls and I think I bought it online. You can get it at Joann's online, I'm not sure if they have it in the store. You can sew on it too.

  3. Your tunic top is awesome with those deep-cuffed trousers. At first I thought your bag was part of the tunic pattern -and then it moved! If I had to choose, I'd pick the dry-brush, but it's also cool how your curtains seem to emerge out of the pink in the diffused glow.

Yes, I feel a project coming on too. This is fantastic information about Thermoweb. Thanks for sharing this.

  4. I'm amazed by the clutch and how it pairs perfectly with your tunic top. I love the idea of Thermoweb, but probably won't get around to following through in the midst of my organizing projects. I will just admire your creativity, and there's lots of that!

    1. It really does 'go' with everything. I ended up making a bunch of those clutches as gifts at one point. Sometimes I just get on a roll and I can't stop... Who knew Thermoweb would be the topic of discussion!
