Tripping Down Memory Lane

In my recent spate of organizing, I came upon some old photo/ scrapbooks.  This completely derailed whatever task I had going, of course.  But it was so cool.  The first things I found was a photo of me wearing that dress bought in Egypt and worn on a cruise down the Nile some 30 years ago.
See, I look exactly the same then as my recently
posted "Starry Night with Van Gogh" seen here

Now the other totally awesome thing I had was an old scrapbook picked up at an estate sale in Saugatuck, Michigan for 50 cents.  I remember feeling so honored

to have it for safe-keeping.  This was along time ago when I used to go to art camp for the summers at Ox-bow.  In fact, here's a group picture of all the artists who served as staff to pay their way:

Can you guess which one is me?
(hint:  I have on a black strapless dress and "diamond" brooch)

Anyway, I'll just show you the opening pages of the estate sale scrapbook and you can see for yourself:
The dedication...
the title and introduction...
and photos of the 3 authoresses who are also sisters!

What sort of trip were you on, oh, 30 years or so ago?

  1. I know what you mean about becoming derailed when organizing. If it wasn't for that, I would be done by now. Looking good 30 years ago and looking good today.

  2. Let's see...thirty years ago? Like 1982? I was 29 years old, married to my first husband, and still 3 years away from my first child. I was thinking of doing a flashback post, too. I did one a while back and recently re-encountered all my photos as I cleaned out a closet.

Your picture is amazing and I love the new one, too. It's so special that you've upcycled the dress. I suspect I have next to nothing from that time due to personal upheaval and fashion-fickleness. Wish I did, though. I still dream about my clothes from the past, especially shoes. Guess that's one of the signs of being a real clothes aficionado.

    1. Oh, I do too - think about my clothes from way back when, especially from the 70's when they were so cool (and I was a skinny thang)!

  3. I feel bad saying that most of my photos are in a box all mangled and disorganized. It's like another life inside that box because my first family started 30 years ago. I was in my 20's and had three kids. Back then we threw all our photos into a box and were lucky to get one or two photo albums put together. In my second life which began somewhere around 98 I was newly married and had my last child. Now all our photos and memories are on discs. It's such a shame isn't it?
I'd love to put together scrap books like this one. It's wonderful!

    1. I know, I have it both ways too - photos in boxes and on discs. I also have them on slides, on the computer hard drive and some in photo albums. That's life I guess, cha-cha-cha-changes...

  4. Whoa, pao! That is some awesome dress. I think of Poirot when I think of cruises down the Nile - the mystery, the romance, the intrigue. I hope you had all those things in that amazing dress. Stunning. And you have kept that sense of allure and beauty going strong!! I was going to university then - one mixed-up, starry-eyed gal.

    1. Yes I did have all those things in that amazing dress cruising down the Nile, Melanie - except for Poirot! Are you saying you're not going to university now?...or you're not one mixed-up, starry-eyed gal now? I hope it's not the latter.
