Meanwhile, here's what I'm wearing: lots of old store-bought things
this time, including dress as jacket, short pants, and plain brown
slip-ons; plus re-refashioned tunic top and tights cut into over-the-knee socks. (click on bold items to see where and how they came into being)

I get worried that I'm not up to snuff when I see your posts. I feel like your wide-eyed worried cat. I don't recognize the art and I want to be IN, like totally hip to the references. You're too cool and I feel pedestrian. That's good, FYI. I need an art-shot in the arm. That's why I love you. You look cool in your glasses.
ReplyDeleteYou mean that's not one you'd want hanging in your living room?! Hey, believe me, I didn't choose this masterpiece as an inspiration for styling. Nor would I have chosen to wear such an ensemble had it not been for the specifics of the painting...so I guess it did what was intended. I do love my cat in the act, though. Oh, and I just wear glasses so I look smart.

ReplyDeleteDo love the combination of blue and brown in your outfit and the varying proportions of the hem lengths you've used - the dress as frock coat is a great idea!
Yes, it reminds me of "The Raft of Medusa" which is way more intense. I just wonder why the guy is completely undressed - was he bathing?
DeleteAhhh, and that was my attempt at fitting in with the stylin' of the guys in clothes. Not bad, yes?
And your outfit...fantabulosity at the piano - now that would be a great painting!

DeletePao, you are just so awesome - excellent interpretation of the painting and perfect insertion! Kitty has the best expression in his sea-green eyes, perhaps he was on the boat in spirit (I would not have been able to resist). This outfit has a nice simplicity and great proportions - love how the hemlines interact.

I am not sure why, but the first thing I thought of when I saw your outfit was "Pilgrim". I am not sure how you arrive at your outfit ideas, but I am thankful that you share them with us.
Oh, I know - she makes me guffaw every time I look at her in that pic.
DeleteYeah, I think it's the white stockings with short pants and plain shoes that makes me look so Puritan. And just the simplicity of the whole outfit.
I would have never come up with this combo had it not been for the inspiration of the painting. That's one of the fun things I find about participating in "Style Inspires Art." You should join in, Debbi.
That is one of the best feline photobombs I've seen in a while. A+ to kitteh! (Though whenever a pet gets in a photo, I can't focus on the clothes.)

DeleteI'm so behind - just now getting to the Visible Monday, and sooo glad I am. This is true inspiration. I didn't see you at first, you are so cleverly integrated. One look at your newfangled camera gadget and the guys in the boat would have abandoned the maiden. Or they would have thought you're a witch and thrown you in too to see if you sink or float! I love this outfit, even more with the painting and lyrics.
