Let Me Brooch the Subject

Oh good, I've just heard the news: Une Femme wants to see our jewels!!!  Well, brooches really.  And I simply must obey, as I've been displaying mine forevah.

painting by Pat Otto, Jewel, 1984

I have a pix of them on my Clothes for Fall page, but for your convenience, I'll place it right here...(after the break)

Voila!
Displayed on a scroll of canvas on the back of my dressing room door.
They used to be on burgundy crushed velvet, but that was in a different phase.  They're from my Mom, found, thrifted, store-bought, hand-made, vintage, gifts, plastic, toys, etc.  Notice I have them grouped by color!

I also have separate arrangements for my necklaces, bracelets and rings, of course.  Cheers to all the jewel-encrusted lovelies out there!

    2. OMG it's YOUR PAINTING. I always so admire the artwork you choose for your posts - you have this amazing image-vocabulary! - and missing the artist serves me right for being in a hurry. So glad I came back!

    3. Yes, it's an oldie from 1984 (that's 28 years ago)! If you look closely you'll see I painted jewelry portraits of many of the same pieces on display.

  2. Oh wow, what an amazing collection, and what a great way to store/display them. I tend to tuck mine away in a jewelry box and then forget them. I may have to try something like this...

And thanks so much for linking up to Show Us The Brooches today!

  3. Great collection, even better that this display lets you see them all at a glance and that you wear them. I love your painting, especially the rose detail you've integrated on the yellow chair.

    1. Hey Melanie, yeah they're all so pretty I want to be able to see them all the time. That big ole rose is actually on the chair. And I still have a couple of the chairs in the studio - although they're in pretty rough condition these days. They made it into many of my paintings back then.

  5. What an amazing brooch collection! And your painting is just amazing too! This has been a great peek into everyone's jewelry box. I wish I had known about it with more time. I would have photographed mine together.

  6. Love this. I keep mine in old egg boxes, which keeps them in order, but it´s not particularly aesthetically pleasing. I should think about a display of some kind.

    1. That's how my Mom always kept her jewelry organized in her vanity drawer. It also works well for my broken jewelry that I want to reconfigure - easy to store and keep together.

I've also used the scroll on the wall which actually looks better, but had no room for it this time. I just run two small doll rods through the top and bottom of a length of heavy cloth that I've hemmed. I added a beautiful piece of silk cording to the top rod for hanging. Like an old wall tapestry.

  8. Oh Pat, what an amazing display. I especially love the lady in blue. Your painting is so wonderful. Your display of the brooches is an art work in itself.

    1. Interesting how she seems to be the fav. Ah, but your collection is exquisite with all those glittering stones. Especially on that rich black background. Do you display them?

I have to join you all with mine...
I always think of what I am going to wear with a thrill.
    Much love, my wonderful Pao.

    1. Yes, that would be great! One could write a book about the stories jewelry collects. And you can feel the thrill in the ensembles you create, Sacramento. I know I'm enthralled.

  12. I'll take the silver moon, blue star and the medieval-looking one with multi-colored stones, please. Oh, and would you mind throwing in the gold sun face?
    Fantastic display and collection.
