Real Styling, Real Imitating, Real Art

Now for the real Style Imitating Art Action.  The inspiration for today's styling is...
Rene Magritte, The Great War
Check out my monstrosity after the break.

I know, my first thought was, haven't I done this before?  I mean the all white ensembles, the white gloves, and the boa for a hat, heck, even an umbrella.   Well here goes the mash-up.

yea, you got that right.
Okay, I've got on (believe it or not) the brim of Mom-made witch's hat that I covered with a round lace tablecloth she gave me and topped that with the old boa neckpiece.  Between my teeth, I'm clutching some silk purple flower buds also from Mom.  Holding the gifted umbrella from MOMA and an antique metal mesh bag from someone/where long ago(?).  I'm wearing an old store-bought blouse, my refashioned shift into vest, my pillowcase skirt, my transparent pants from shorts, and THE golden boots from e-bay.  Oh, oh, and my diy gold bug brooch on pearls.  Oh, oh and my mended pearl knit gloves from Mom.  (If you want, click on the bold items to see their how, when and wherefores.)

Meanwhile here's some extra shots of this and that to amuse you...
a close up of all that jazz
including big beetle climbing  pearls
and my lady clutch

So, Style Imitating Art is now going live on Tuesdays, so check it out to see what others are doing with Magritte's inspiring painting.

Meanwhile, I'm going to join the Visibles at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style as well as others at Monday Mingle and then Lakota's Ta-Dah Tuesday.  Hope you can all keep up!

Peek-a-boo.  We see you.

  3. The "peek-a-boo, we see you" shot looks like it was taken on the Titanic just before the panic, if in fact they'd had cameras like that. You are totally divine.

  4. This is over-the-top FANTASTIC! But I hope you wear it out because it's so perfect in every way, even forgetting about the Magritte. Genius hat improv. I love the lady clutch and gloves with that huge honkin' bug-on-pearls.

    1. I most certainly agree, Vix. A bug and her lady should never be parted for the maximum in fashionistic possibilities.

  8. You look so, so, so CLEAN! I can't even unfold a white shirt without getting it dirty :P Also I have such a high level of klutziness, I could never have managed camera, umbrella, and bag. I am utterly in awe of you, your beautiful, dexterous, sparkly, romantic splendor with the random beetle thrown in. And that scary thing in the last picture. I can't stop looking at it even tho' I want to.

    1. ooo Lynne, let me introduce you to Tree Bark Woman. She's about 6 feet tall by 12" wide and made from found wood which I assembled and carved a bit and then painted with encaustic. She's actually quite lovely and hangs out on the skylit landing between floors. You can see her fully in my art site at www.patottoart.com under sculptures. Watch out for the Minotaur though, now he's scarey.
