Not as cool as these, but still...the kind you wear with garters. ha. I'll have to direct you back to my refashioned foray into garter belts. Absolutely fabulous to this day. See that preposterous post here.
And now for your viewing pleasure, the black & white, cobbled together bits of stretchy fabric scraps, assembled to create one-of-a-kind (literally) stockings:

Needless to say, I owe all the design factoring to Mari of the Rose Hips Tights & Stocking Pattern. I didn't have enough scraps to go all the way, so thigh highs it was. Elastic didn't work at all with this fabric, so I quickly resorted to my lovely garter belts, that I happen to have in both black and in white. DeleteThese are not stockings - they are beyond stockings, they are superhero vibrathons of energy. The pattern smash-up is awesome. And what a ticklish bit of happiness that you wear them with garters. They're great with your fencetop shoes.

Deletethose are AMAZING. I'd go gaga over something like that if I saw it for sale on something like sock dreams. They are magnificent and I admit I'm a sucker for any kind of foot wear that shows off my socks.
ReplyDeleteAnd you can make them too, Megan! It doesn't take any particular sewing skills or equipment, just the right fabric - must be stretchy in all directions. Just think of the T's you could pick up at the thrift stores!

DeleteBrilliant! What will you create next? I have a few garter belts myself in my vintage lingerie collection. I remember wearing them in the 50's before the days of panty hose. And girdles! Now there's an item I don't miss.

DeleteI LOVE these. ADORE them! BEST stockings, anytime, any where. These really are not mismatched, either, just from different parts of the same design ... sort of. Like you, they defy qualification!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower, not a leader like you ( applause, giggle, jump) but I love it when stuff is mismatched below the knee. I'm always so tempted to copy Helena Bonham Carter when she wears different shoe on each foot ... perhaps the same pair (and on the correct foot) but different colors each shoe. She's as close to a style icon as I can muster for my shape and size, but I'm not so brave. That, and your tights are the next logical mix-it step, yes?
That is so funny, Jan, about loving stuff when it's mismatched below the knee! Helena Bonham Carter is terrific and I did not know about her 2 different shoes worn at one time thing. Even cooler. I can see you right now doing it. Don't you have those t-strap heels in white and black? or coral? Very nice.
