Chocolate Swirls on a Winter's Day

~ ooo, I should've left my coat on ~

~ twirling around and stamping my feet ~
doesn't keep the cold away.

I've worn the dress before.  It's a shirt-weight corduroy with embellishments I made into Tina Givens Clara Kaftan pattern.  With modifications, of course.  The neckline and hem are bound with brown linen and the sleeves were extended with some sheer brown stuff I had on hand.  I doubled it and then rolled it up like a cuff.

I found this old brown turtleneck sweater in the closet archives that worked perfectly.  Also there were these brown wool leggings.  I was surprised I could still get them on.  Both were from yesteryear.  Added the brown lace anklets and I was all set.  Oh, and then I made brown stretch knit wrist warmers that morning to go with.

~ the jewels ~

To help relieve my all Brownie look, I added a selection of golden brooches, artfully arranged, no less.

~ and my copper colored docs ~

from ebay of course.

And that's a wrap from me, here in Chicago, the land of sub-zero weather.  It was the last day of school and I have a month off.  It was also the day someone (!) dropped my million dollar nearly brand new sewing machine from the desk onto the floor.  Pause.  while I quietly reflect on that.  I am trying to distract myself rather than freaking out.  for now.  yeah.

So, hopefully, Patti and the Visibles will show up for the Not Dead Yet Style party cuz I am ready.  And Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like.  And whatever else is going on out there.

    1. I know. I haven't been able to look at it yet, because if anything's wrong with it, I will totally freak out big time. The Sew Guy doesn't come in to work until Wednesday and I just want to have him take care of it. We'll see if I go crazy before or after.

Re your outfit: wow. Did you embellish the fabric? I just love how you put things together. And those boots! Very cool outfit.

    1. Hey Vix, is that like the glass being half full/ half empty? Well, I don't have nearly enough jewelry on for your taste, but it's a start.

  6. I am not a fan of wearing brown, but you have managed to earn a two-thumbs up from me with this outfit. I think it's the embellished fabric, which is awesome.

Fingers crossed for your sewing machine!

    1. Oh, I luv brown, especially choco brown. There was a time when I only wore black and now I can barely abide it. But black and white cats, now they are something to brag about.

  7. I just love your snowy posts!
Recently I've been embracing brown and warmer colours, so this fits right in. Of course you have all the things, with the gloves and the anklets I was admiring. I thought they were the leggings!
The winning touches are the gold and copper. The shinies!! My
    Precioussss!

    1. Hey Jack, Well they are leggings, but I've got anklets over them. Nothing much is exposed to the cold air. I even have bloomers on underneath! Oh yes, the precioussss.

    1. Yes, yes, I hoping for the best and a quick cure. Maybe some hot chocolate will help the process.

  9. Yum! I love your brown outfit especially with the bronze boots. So sorry about the accident. Here's hoping it's not fatal. My nearly 40 year old beast would have broken the floor first!

    1. Yes, these are some of your colors, Louisa. My machine is not even a year old, so you know it's mainly plastic, even if it is computerized. ohhhhhhhh.

  10. I love that fabric and dress. I have put my sewing machine away while I finish my knitting projects first...however, you make me think about the wisdom of that idea. I love to sew as well as knit. However, the fabric stash is lacking, hence...nothing made recently. The yarn stash is far healthier.

    1. Hi Susan. I haven't taken up knitting for that very reason. I want nothing in the way of my sewing! heehee. Although, maybe now would be a good time...
