I Say, It's A Spring Frock!

~ up close and with fabric scrap adornments by moi ~

Finished just in time for Sunday Brunch.   People kept smiling at me when they walked by.  Maybe it was the combination of my Koos Coat, the Spring Frock, Tangerine sox and Floral Mary Janes.  Or it was just a nice, sunny day...

~ still waiting for that cup of chai ~

Meanwhile, here's the view of my camouflaged double pocket.  Can you make it out?

~ detail of the double pocket ~

The dress pattern is from Tina Givens, called Katarina and while I like it fine, there were some drafting issues with the pattern that need to be addressed.

~ there's that pocket with my hand in it ~

I also added a fancy patch pocket on the other side because I'm a two pocket type of gal.

~ well, you can't see any of the back details... ~

So here's a close-up of the camouflaged elastic channels that run across the upper back giving the dress some design elemental action.

~ like my design speak? ~

And, of course

~ les sox and docs ~

Without further ado, I'm joining Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style.  Then off to Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like and Cherie's Shoe and Tell whenever they go live.  See you there!  Oh, oh, do you think I can pass for a bit of eggplant in Spygirls's 52 pick me up?  Let's try.

What to Wear in a Bog Dress

or a swamp thang
~ maybe substitute the velvet fake docs ~
or maybe not

This is so comfortable I fell asleep in it and found myself wearing it this morning.  And you can't tell the difference!  Now that's how I like my clothes, bay-bee.

~ hey look! it's 2, 2, 2 dresses in 1 ~

The pattern is from Tina Givens, called the Poppy Slip and ShirtThe fabrics are thin stretch knits/ mesh abstract prints from Fabricmart.com

~ le back view ~

And as I always say, 2 sheers make it right.  You know what I mean?

~ the obligatory shoe shot ~

That's blue velvet fake Docs from ebay and space-dyed sox from Soxdreams.com.

Now it's off to the big parties for the week.  Whenever they go live, that is.  Patti's Not Dead Yet Style with all the Visibles, Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like, and Cherie's Shoe and Tell.  See you there!

Burnt Sienna and Charcoal, they said

...or maybe Brillo pad with sporadic black gunk.

~ hmmm ~

Whatever it is, I made something from it.   Something biblical I think.

~ no, no, just kidding ~
~ help, help, I'm a burning bush, man! ~

What I made was from a Tina Givens Leigh Coat pattern, with quite a few modifications. The fabric is actually a very light weight, loosely woven, semi-sheer, stretchy knit. And in the sun, it shines like a new copper penny. Do they still make them out of copper?

~ it's just the same inside and outside ~

I'm wearing it over the Tina Givens Frankie velvet ensemble and Olivia tunic I posted about a couple weeks ago.
So here I go again straight over to Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style, Catherine's I Will Wear What I like and Cherie's Style Nudge Shoe and Tell.

And...there's more extra credit after the break!

Hey, Hey, You, You, GOMI*

*Get Off My Internets*

Oscars-shmoscars.  I'm famous for real now.  As we speak, I am being GOMI-ed.  Yes, yes, it was a bit of a shock at first, but hey...I hear that's the price of fame.  Being misunderstood, bad press, mean girls, yadda, yadda, yadda.

~ cuz you know girls, I can take it ~

Everything I have on, is hand-made by moi, hand-sewn even.  Except the scarf was thrifted ($1) and the button gifted (priceless).

~  I'm having the time of my life ~

~ uh-huh ~

The fabric is called Golden Pear Embossed Stretch Velvet, oolala, and it's made into Paul Poiret's Cocoon Coat designed in the early 19-teens from Folkwear patterns.  The purple hat and over-the-elbow fingerless gloves are made ala Albama Chanin out of a T-shirt.  Green suede booties are Irregular Choice from ebay.   And $ Store reading glasses.

Off to Patti's Not Dead Yet Style to hang out with the Visibles, yeah.  And Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like.  And Cherie's Style Nudge, Shoe and Tell.  See you there!

* I'm GOMI-ed under the forum thread of the art of repurpose (?)  btw.  Have any of you been inducted into that club?

Oh, and here's an extra credit photo...

Take Some Tulle, a Flannel Shirt and a Bit of Drapery

Mix it all together, and what do you get?  An Oscar-worthy gown, by golly!

~ Venus approved ~

Okay, maybe if I was a celebraty (mispelling intentional, well, not at first), I would be showing more fleshiness.  But I just mentioned the Oscars because it was timely.  Whereas my gown is timeless.

~ Been here long? ~

Those of you that have been around the block with me before, may remember this beauty.  Truly it's worth a repeat trip to the big show, don't you think?

~ nothing twirls like tulle ~

As if you haven't guessed by now, I made this from a bunch of stuff I had or that was given to me by friends:  the tulle, the big ole flannel shirt, the scraps of drapery.  The bloomers are made from Tina Givens free Plinka pants pattern using fabric stash.  Fingerless gloves are a knockoff from Alabama Chanin's book, using couching as a decorative technique on scrap fabric.

~ Boots are from ebay ~

Oh, one moment please...please stand by...this just in.

~ omg, omg!  I believe I've won! ~

Without further ado, I'm headed off to the Visibles party at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style.  Everyone's there.  Then I'll be joining Catherine's I Will Where What I Like link-up (but, of course).  And Cherie's Shoe and Tell.  ooo, ooo I'm wearing all kinds of blue, so I'll be heading over to Anne's 52 Pick Me Up finally!!!
