Day 26 MMM'19: Memorial Day Whites

This is just a test:
But go ahead and do it anyway
~ Do I Look Like I'm ... ~

  1.   in an ad for Magnolia Pearl Clothing?
  2.   a Victorian fairy?
  3.   modeling for Gustave Klimt (sans glasses)?
  4.   ready for here comes the bride?
  5.   dressed to kill?
  6.   all of the above
  7.   none of the above
  8.   other (add your selection in comments)

Okay then, let's get the show on the road.

~ I know, I look better in infrared ~

But this is my real world, bay-bee.

~ and really, it all started with THE shoes ~

But first, what am I wearing?

  • 1st layer is an old linen jumper that I refashioned into a vest long, long ago.  Adding lace here and there as one is want to do, and big ole pockets out of upholstery fabric.
  • 2nd layer is an old lace tablecloth messed around with to turn into what I have on.
  • 3rd layer is a linen gauze slip made from Tina Givens Priscilla pattern.
  • 4th layer are the gauze & lace shorts refashioned with added organza and made into pantaloons.

~ the back view ~

Wherein you might exclaim, "What's that on her head?!"  But then again, you might not.  I've already worn it once a few days ago without embellishment.  Now I think I have it just right.  It needed ropes of pearls, ladies, not a dye job.  Yes.

~ Let's zoom in for the detail ~

~ and another vantage point ~

Oh my.  I just whipped these pearls from off my dress and up and around my hat in a flash (without even looking) because it just had to be.  Otherwise I couldn't stand all that twee.  Which is why I put the hat on in the first place.

~ and the golden Trippens that started it all, from ebay ~

I'll be joining Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style when she goes live.  And Catherine's I Will Wear what I Like as well.  Hope to see you all there.  Oh, oh, and I simply must do Judith's Hat Attack for May!  Do Come on by!

See you later,

Day 13 MMM'19: Just Zig-Zagging Along

Caught rolling up my tunic top so you can see the full glory of my skirted pants.
~ whoops ~

Yes, I know, not the most flattering look.  But it's the pants we're checking out.

~ there we go ~

Made in cotton from Tina Givens Candace pants pattern, my second pair.  I luv this pattern.  I slightly modify it to put pockets in the wings and leave off the elastic at the bottom hem.

~ with the top down, so to speak ~

Tina Givens Olivia Tunic pattern made in a light-weight sweater knit.  I've made this tunic many times.  However, I don't think this is the best selection for these pants, but that's what came together today.

And horrors!  I forgot a close up of my platform Docs from ebay.  Maybe they'll have to have another outing...

Tomorrow is another day.

My Dream Pants Come True

I was so excited to see this pattern for pants...finally

~ I just luv them to pieces ~

Why did it take so long for anyone to put a pattern out?

I know, there are some old hammer-like ones out there, but that's not it.  I don't like the big pleated bagging in the middle.  Burda just released a pattern that came really close and I was ready to settle on burda 6358.

~ thank you, ma'am ~

Then, wham, Tina Givens dropped Candace pants and top pattern.   I was in.

~ just pulling up my pants here ~

I used a drawstring, rather than the 1" elastic band for the waist.  I always prefer a drawstring because then I can choose to wear it high-waisted or slung low on my hips.  Plus, it's a bit more decorative.  Here, I used some grosgrain ribbon I had on hand and added a cluster of mustard colored beads to the tie ends.

~ it's so simple to make ~

Of course, I did make a few modifications.  But nothing major.

~ like in-seam pockets ~

I put pockets in the wings located on either side of the waist.  It seemed like a no-brainer.  Otherwise, it's just flaps in the wind, which is a nice design element - but why not use them too?  The pattern does call for a welt pocket in the body of the pant itself.  I opted for these 2 instead.

~ no cuff pants and ebay shoes ~

At the leg section, after trying them out, I eliminated the cuffs.  I already knew I wasn't going to use the 1" elastic in them (just don't care for the look and there didn't seem any purpose for it).  The cuffs seemed to exaggerate an unbalanced look somehow.  So I decided to finish the leg off with lace used as seam binding.  I like the way it kept it light and simple.

~ about that top ~

I made the top a long while ago from an old tablecloth.  As you might be able to tell, it was folded in half so there was a front and a back.  The middle section was cut half way up to be able to put it on and form a neckline.  Two side seams were sewn half way up from the hem to form sleeves.

~ and that's the gist of it ~

The pattern of the tablecloth is what makes it, I think.  This was a small, square one with a smaller white square in the middle.  Not to mention the great print of a garden and gardeners.

I'll be at Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style, Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like, and Cherie's Shoe and Tell when the all go live.  See you there.

A Cool Blue Tablecloth Dress

for the last day of MeMadeMay'18
~ Am I Right? ~

It's funny how time changes things.  When I first made this, I wore it differently.   You can see how here, way back in 2014.  And now because of MMM, I'm liking it more in this relaxed, funky, layered-look way.

~ and here you can see it really was a tablecloth ~

And very simply made at that.  I just added thin navy bias tape to bind the neckline and sleeve edges.  The dress hem is the hemmed edges of the tablecloth.  There were some stains that I covered with appliques.  Like the two gray leaf forms at the center bottom.  They're actually cut out from other fabric and zig-zagged on.

~ this is the buttoned-up look ~

I added a matching button in the middle of the design and two buttonholes on either end of the fabric "wings" so I could fold them over, as you can see.  Those three little flowers on the white border were sewn on to cover more stains.

The blue lace pantaloons were self-drafted.  Piece of cake.

~ and cool blue platform sandals from ebay ~

I will be wrapping up my MMM'18 experience in the next post and comparing this year with last year.  Both had surprises for me.
And thank you all for your comments of support.  It really makes a difference.  Especially since I don't do any of the other social media.  mmwwaaa!

Do I Look Like I'm...

on MeMadeMay'18, Day 22

a) goth?
b) in a nunnery?
c) dressed for Halloween?
d)  in my jammies?
e)  just odd?
f)  all of the above?
g) or???

~ I'll turn around while you decide ~

~ okay, no peeking ~

And I'll tell you about what I'm wearing.  The over dress is made in gauze and is from Katherine Tilton's Vogue 8834 top pattern.  What interested me was how it opens on a diagonal, so when I elongated it into a dress, it was extreme.  I also used snap tape rather than zillions of buttons and button holes.  The underdress I showed a few posts ago.  It's a linen tablecloth that I self-drafted.  I'm still trying to find something to wear with it.  I think this works the best so far, but it is rather dramatic.

~ the snaps! ~

Yeah, I'm not just showing off my shoes here.  And they're not even the same one's I wore  yesterday.  They're more of a Mary Jane type, but I'm wearing weird wrap-around-and-tie socks that make them look otherwise.

~nice Trippen Happy Blank shoes from ebay ~

And now it's your turn to participate.  I can't wait to hear what you have to say.  eek!

Not Every Ensemble is a Poster Child

for MeMadeMay'18, Day #10.

~ yeah, see what I mean? ~

Even though I posterized it in photoshop.
Do you even want to know what I have on?

Well, let's take another look-see.

~ hmmm... ~

Okay then.  The top dress is a fix-it-up-because-it-doesn't-quite-work Tina Givens April Dress pattern made from unused bed linens.   The underdress is self-drafted and made from a fancy white linen tablecloth that had scalloped edges.   The necklace is a grosgrain ribbon that was fastened onto gold elastic and tied onto a gift.

~ very old hand-painted monk-strap shoes ~

No, they did not come from ebay, but deep within my closet along time ago when they were messed up black suede.  I used various colors of acrylic paint and voila.

over and out.

Just Can't Beat Bloomers, I Say

and that goes double on MeMadeMay'18, Day #9!

~ Sure, I'll drink to that. ~

Now wearing my workout ensemble from this morning.  A donated open weave linen tablecloth turned bloomers adapted from Tina Givens Lainey Pants pattern.  And a striped crepe tunic originally based on Tina Givens free Bloom Dress pattern and then morphed as I sewed.

~ whoa, is that a bee on my arm? ~

I never wore these two pieces together before and look how lovely they "go" together.   That's what I love about MeMadeMay.  It makes me come up with combos I never would've put together otherwise.

You Can't Keep a Tablecloth Dress Down...

and/or out for MeMadeMay'18, Day #8.

~ and oldie but a goodie ~

Made from 3 tablecloths:  1) for the bodice and front skirt, 2) for the back skirt and 3) for the sleeves.  I deviated (wildly?) from the free Tina Givens Kika dress pattern.  Basically, I added sleeves, bias binding for the neckline and box pleated a longer skirt.  Oh, and added inseam pockets.  Nothing major, really.

~ here's a view of all 3 cloths at once ~

You know, like those tourist stops where you can see 3 states from one point at the side of the road?  Well, there you go.

Wearing That French Housedress

for MeMadeMay'18 on Day #6.

~ using the dry brush affectation ~

You know, so I look more like a French Impressionist painting.  hrmph.

Anyway, I'm referring to the nickname Marcy Tilton gave to her Vogue 8813 pattern.  I've made at least half a dozen of them, all from vintage tablecloths. I just couldn't stop.  Most combined 2 to 3 cloths, but this one was large enough to go solo.     You can see the others if you want to:  here, here, here, here, here and here (in reverse chrono order!)

~ ooo la la ~

As you can see, it's all embroidered and has cut-outs.  I was able to use the scalloped edges for the hem.

~ a look at both sides now ~

Not much was happening on the back, so I appliqued some of the embroidery work onto the back shoulder area and at the waist line.

And last but not least...

~ sweet shoes from ebay ~

It's that time again, so off I go to Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style, Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like, and Cherie's Shoe & Tell when they all go live.  Hope to see you there!

Clothes that Work Out

Yep, that's me showing off my work-out wear.

~  you know, like for exercising ~

I haven't mentioned my routine?

~ hmm, let me show you my moves ~

But first, you have to know I've made whatever I'm wearing, right?  yeah.

Well, the sweatshirt that says SEW was an XL men's that I cut up, added a collar from the hem and a jacket zipper from my stash.  The pants I made awhile ago from a vintage, heavy linen tablecloth.  And here's the stretch mesh top...

Variations on a Theme

I walked in, someone said "wow" and snapped a picture.

I said, "send it to me."

And they did.

Blog post done just like that (snap).

~ moi, paintified ~

Okay, here's a few details:

I just made the stretch mesh peasant top with grosgrain ribbon tie, self-drafted.  And the linen tablecloth bloomers based on Tina Givens Lainey pants pattern.

You've previously seen the TG stretch mesh Tessa slip pattern and the old jeans made into the Vogue 8928 hat pattern.

I already had the shoes, sox and sunnies.

With the bare minimum I'm heading over to Patti's Not Dead Yet Style, Catherine's I Will Where What I Like, and Cheri's Shoe and Tell when they all go live.  Hope to see you all there!  Oh, and Judith's Hat Attack.

Oh wait, there's more...

~ with blue hair as an accessory ~

~ and without the bloomers ~

~ but there's matching sox and very cool shoes ~

~ plus a lovely vintage clasp ~

Now, that's a wrap.
