MMM'20: Housedresses for the Win!

~ Housedress with Baseball Cap and Mask ~

~ I'm on the PAO team ~

~ it was too big then ~

I made this dress out of challis from old, old stash so look ago, hmmm.  Let's see if I can remember...ah yes, thank goodness for the blog.  Last worn here in 2015 and it seems I made it up as I went along.

~ and it's too big now ~

Fits comfy, like a housedress should.

~ worn with plaid Mary Jane Doc Martens from ebay ~

~ and today's hair-in-my-eyes Masked Mug Shot ~

Until tomorrow,

MMM'20: A Handmaid's Tale

When I was undressing last night
and saw this red dress without the overdress,
I realized I had everything I needed:  cap, mask, boots
and even St. Corona gloves.
Well, those were a bonus.

~ for my version of a Handmaid ~

~ Don't you think so? ~

~ here's a back view of it all ~

The dress is from Katherine Tilton's OOP Vogue 6334 made in a mesh stretch knit.

I copied the hat from one I bought from Secret Lentil, but apparently she's closed right now.  You can see the one I purchased from her, here.  I know she has more of the same style in a variety of interesting colors.

You can see the one I made out of a thick canvas last worn in MMM'19, here.

~ Handmaid in her docile, subservient role ~

~ and here she is not taking it any more ~

~ with Doc Marten combat boots ready for anything ~

~ an extra large masked and capped mug shot ~
So you're able to see the details of my decorated St Corona gloves.

I was seriously compelled to make these after reading Catherine McEver's Corona posts.  I liberally combined several of her ideas, techniques and fascinating information from Stuff You Can't Have.

A truly must read blog for our time, or any time.

Hope to see you soon,

Yea for Fall Layers

~ It feels good ~

~ Just relaxing into it ~

~ the side view ~

I'm wearing all stuff I've made awhile ago.  But never worn altogether before.  The hat is hand sewn from old t-shirts and seed beads a la Alabama Chanin. I've made at least 2 so far.  The beautiful scarf was given to me from a friend via the Salvation Army.  And the sunglasses are from the $ store.

The coat is from The Sewing Workshop Thai Coat pattern made in black and gold brocade.  It's the second one I've made.

The overdress is from The Sewing Workshop, the Verenda Dress, much modified and made in a scuba knit print.  The underdress is from Tina Givens Sam Dress pattern, much modified, made in striped georgette.  Also the second one made.

~ I made it so I can wear it backwards or frontwards ~

~ with my lovely shoes from ebay ~

And that's a wrap.  I'll be linking up with Patti and the Visibles when she goes live at Not Dead Yet Style.  And Catherine at I Will Wear What I Like.  Also Judith's Hat Attack for October.  Hope to see you there!

I Got Birkenstocks!

How in the World did that Happen?  You may ask yourself.

~ Well, let me tell you...~

I was already dressed like this, complete with the anklets, when they came in the mail from ebay.

~ I had to put them on immediately, of course ~

And dash off for the camera, ooo-ing and aahh-ing all the way.

~ so much better than the gray Nike sandals I had been wearing ~

puleeze

Before I get to the centerfold shot, I simply must say a few words about the ensemble (which I have worn before).  I'ts a lightweight, pale blue linen shirt dress made from a Vogue Miyake pattern #1544 and last seen on me, here.

~ Les Golden Leather Birkenstocks ~

They looked as though they hadn't been worn before and no one was bidding for them?!  Well, almost no one.  Like 3 people and I won them for $21.00!  I guess it's cuz they were Mary Janes and not the popular sandals.  I usually don't even bother bidding for Birkenstock sandals because no matter how gross and used they are, people bid up to and over hundreds of dollars for them.  yuck.  But there was no action on these babies.  Yeah for me.

I think I'll wear them to bed.

And certainly to Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet StyleOh, and Judith's July Hat Attack! too.  Let's not forget Catherine's I'll Wear What I Like.  Do stop on by.

Day 23 MMM'19: And Now for Something...

...Completely Weird

~ Am I right? ~

~ No matter what the pose... ~

 It still reads weird.

~ yep ~

This was something I whipped up today to wear with something else.  And, of course, it didn't work out.  But it also didn't work by itself.  So rather than waste all that effort, I thought why not go over-the-top, whack-a-doodle weird.

~ So here I am ~

If you want the info, I used some stretch mesh I had in stash and New Look pattern 6533.  It didn't look like this on the model - lower waist and not nearly so loose and wide.

I traced off the helmet hat I bought from Secret Lentil to make my own raw canvas one.  Haven't decided on a dye job yet.

Pants I've had forever.  They were called crochet beach cover up pants, I believe.

Oh, the stockings are the cutest things.  They're little lace footies with long elastic straps that you wrap around and around your legs and tie.  Perfect for see through pants, I might add.

~ paired with Jeffrey Campell silver flatforms from ebay ~

I'll be linking up with Judith's Hat Attack! for this one.  Come on by, won't you?

Until later,

Day 10 MMM'19: Captain Clash

 and the Fight Against Blasé-ness

~ pay no heed to that hand jive ~
Who knew burnt orange and purply-pink would look so smashing together?!

You've seen this all before, only not all together.  Hat is from Secret Lentil, last seen here.  Coat is made from Tina Givens Becca pattern, last seen here.

Underneath is my exercise wear for today.
~ too blurry photo posterized ~
I think it helps a bit.

Here's another one of those vests I was talking about in yesterday's post

~ back view, and a peak at side contrasts ~

Pants are made from Sandra Betzina's Vogue 1355 pattern using challis fabric.  I also made a matching top for them as seen here.

~ inside view ~

Here you can see a bit of the red side of the reversible vest.  And my stretch mesh ivory Parisian scene top.  It's just a plain t-shirt type top and I don't recall what pattern, if any I used.

~ Vivienne Trippen shoes from ebay ~

I spy something floral, so off I go to Spy Girl's May Florals link-up.  And a hat for Judith's May Hat Attack!

Until tomorrow,

Day 3 MMM'19: Attack of the Florals

You know, it's still cold in May, even with the occasional sunburst.

~ suppressing all that flower power ~

In my plain ole hooded red fleece sweatshirt from Butterick 6253 pattern

~ Abstract Florals Galore ~

Starting with my kimono made from Simplicity 4291

~ layer after layer ~

A chiffon remix shirt from Vogue 9040 as well as the stretch jersey pants from who knows what pattern.  All with a quasi-Asianesque vibe, I do believe.

~ not to be outdone, here are my Doc Martens from ebay ~

This was today's workout outfit, by the way...

And off to link up with Spy Girls Florals for the Month of MayWhile I'm at it, let's go for Style Crone's May Hat Attack! too.

See you tomorrow.

Spring Time Checked In

at least for one day in April... (today it's raining, and tomorrow, well, all week).

~ Can you tell I've lost weight? ~

It's been two years now that I've been on my exercise regime and I've lost a total of 26 pounds!  yea.  I kicked it up a notch over the last 3 months with an added food regime that helped me drop 8 of the 26 during that time.  Mostly it's healthy eating on a regular basis.  What a concept!

~ meanwhile, I dug this raincoat out of the archives ~

Finding 20 to 30 year old pieces that I haven't worn since then.  Such a flashback is in store for MeMadeMay'19, let me tell ya.  Well, maybe not, some of them go back far enough to be store bought!

~ ta for now ~

Beside the raincoat I brought home from a swap 30 years or so ago, and the navy Mary Jane Doc Martins from ebay, I'm wearing a dress I made you can see here, my hand sewn hat here, and my hand made fingerless gloves here.

See you over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style, Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like, Cheri's Shoe & Tell when they all go live, and Judith's Hat Attack! for April.

And I'll be seeing you every darn day in May.

Sightings of the Scarlet Sasquatch

and other shenanigans 'round Antarctica Lake Michigan.

~ shhh, there she is now ~

It must be disconcerting standing on what was once the lake, now covered with frozen piles of sand.  Beyond are huge chucks of ice floes stretching out to the horizon.

~ what is she doing now? ~

~ ah yes, tasting it ~

~ and Happy Valentine's Day to You! ~

Live, from the shores of Lake Michigan, in Chicago.

~ I gotta get out of this place ~

Please note for your viewing pleasure:  my Walking Dead Doc Martens boots from ebay, my Spirit Hoods fur hat also from ebay, the hand-knitted (or is it crochet?) scarf from a friend, and my Mom's old "shopping" coat.  All coming together for the perfect Scarlet Sasquatch ensemble as named by today's photographer friend, Sally.

~ with a parting shot of the break water (ha ha) ~

I'll be heading on over to Patti's Not Dead Yet Style, Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like, Cherie's Shoe & Tell and Judith's Hat Attack.  Come on by.

Rip Roaring RRRed

and ready to celebrate the big thaw... now that freezing temps seem balmy...

~ compared to the POlaR VorTEX ~

Yes, where for as far as you could see, Lake Michigan was FroZen, I tell you.  Never seen anything like it.  Even now at 40 degrees or so, the waves of ice caps coming to shore are still frozen in the act.

~ the coat I finished while being house-bound ~

Even mail service was suspended for two days because of the arctic freeze.

I saw this incredible helmet/bonnet/hat on Secret Lentil's site while I was in the midst of making my canvas frayed red coat and knew it was mine.  I adore it.  Check out her site for the amazing, one-of-a-kind, pieces of clothing she designs like no other.

Don't you think I should figure out how to dye fabric so my coat doesn't look so pristine?

I was planning on making a bunch of shades of red clothes to wear with the coat/duster.  I had in mind:  velvet, faux leather, taffeta or satin, mesh.  But then I just couldn't wait to wear it when the weather broke.

So I shopped my closet, as they say.  I found that really invigorating.  I've never put something together based on wearing all one color before.  I layered one red thing over another and poof.  I was a force to be reckoned with.

~ this is what I wore to school on Saturday ~

More or less.  I also had on my other red coat over it all cuz it was still cold out.

~ yeah, bay-bee ~

The top dress is a cotton blend made from Tina Givens Rosalind pattern.  The under dress is from a Katherine Tilton Butterick 5986 pattern made out of a thin slinky knit of which the scarf thingy is also made.

~ real redness here ~

~ xoxo shoes from ebay ~

I'll be heading on out to Patti's Not Dead Yet Style party, Cherie's Shoe & Tell, and Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like when they all go live.  Come on by.  Oh, oh, and Judith's Hat Attack for February.

ed. note:  I do believe I never credited the beautiful red coat I made here!  It's from Tina Givens Elena pattern made out of canvas.
