My June Getup

~ yep, I'm wearing all Tina Givens garb, with all my modifications ~

I'm so glad MeMadeMay'17 is over, I might just post only once this month!

~ TG Maria pattern top and skirt ~

~ this looks nothing like the image on the pattern, but I still like it ~

~ and my ebay sandals ~

Before I trot off to Patti's Not Dead Yet Style, Catherine's I Will Wear What I Like, and Cherie's Shoe and Tell when they go live...

I do want to mention what I learned from participating in the MMM project:
  • I wore stuff I had made and had never worn before.  It seems I was able to find other pieces that went well with them.
  • Wearing a different pair of shoes each day made me realize how often I chose the same few pair over and over.  Having to pair up other shoes with an outfit really seemed to to be a game changer.
  • Not wearing the same things with the same things was also interesting.  I never realized before how often I do that.  So I tried not to this month.  It's so automatic.
  • I realized how much I really do luv layering.  When all I wore was a dress, it felt very plain and boring.  Even when it was a great dress, shoes and sox.
  • I've been inspired to sew in the holes of my wardrobe - make more slips, bloomers, underdresses, overdresses, sheer layers, stockings, sox, crop tops and things that go with stuff I've already made.
Thanks Zo, for making it happen Year 8.

    1. In actuality, I used these fabrics to test the pattern since they were ones I liked the least. But when finished, I thought "hey, this looks interesting."

  2. The tree has a tag? Oh nos.
I do love what you've taken away from MMM, changing stuff up. Words to dress by, m'dear. Thanks.
Wearing socks with my sandals for the color....

    1. Not to worry, it's just the sign for street cleaning on Tuesday.
Yeah, MMM was interesting in that way. Photo-ing daily, not so much.
      Socks are good for that.

  3. Where I come from, this is not a getup as it's far too cute! Love the colors on you, and the mix of patterns.

    1. Hey Rhonda, don't we both live in Chicago? I looked up "getup" when I wrote it just to check. And its au courant these days too.

  4. The outfit is fab, Pao and I particularly like the pink socks, a real unique touch.
Changing shoes make a massive difference! xxx

  5. Such summery colours. I love the way you take the excess out of Tina Givens and make the pieces your own! And "sewing in holes" in your wardrobe is a very satisfying exercise, isn't it?

    1. That's one way to put it, Louisa!
And sewing in holes never gets done either.

  6. Thanks Valerie. I think they're both weird, the color combo and the silhouette, but somehow do okay together.

  7. I love it that you modify the patterns to make each piece truly YOU. And those pink socks are the best of the day. xox

    1. I tell you, Patti. It's hard to find pink anklets.

  8. You have me inspired to dig into my stash of TG patterns and play around with proportions and such (just need to figure out where I packed the darned cords for the sewing machines the last time we moved!).

Also love the shoes you wear. I tend to go Birks, Docs, and Fluevog (unisex ones so they are wide enough) and gave up heels many years ago (around the time I told a male boss that I'd wear them when he did and he never mentioned it again--muwahahahah). On that note, I'm curious what brand the sandals are that you are wearing. Look like TUK or Dr. Marten but I haven't seen either of those brands in that color.

Thanks for being an inspiration! :)

    1. Glad to be an inspirator, Elizabeth.
I find you don't even have to play around with TG proportions, they're already completely different than what they show anyway! But still, it's more like self-defense.
Never wore high heels myself. Yeah, platforms, or even 1" kitten heels. I believe these are Faryl Robyn. I've only seen them that one time when I got them on ebay. hmmm, but I recently saw a similar color combo of platform sandals there. I don't know the brand, but if you look under flatform sandals you'd probably see them...

  9. I like wearing tunics over dresses - like you, I feel boring if I'm only wearing one layer of fabric. I like the colours and pattern mix of this outfit. I do wish I had as many pairs of cool shoes as you to mix and match. I have 4 pairs of summer shoes, three of which are black, that are comfortable and look good with dresses.

    1. I believe we're in the same tribe, Shelley. Perhaps you could dye or paint one of the black pair of shoes if you wanted another color/ pattern...

  11. I'm sure you've heard this a million times, but please let me know if you are ever interested in selling any of your lovely creations. Those tablecloth dresses are to die for!

    1. Glad you like my stuff, MsNomi. There's so many things I want to sew and not enough time to do them all.

You know the tablecloth dresses are done from a Marcy Tilton Vogue pattern 8813, so you can make some for yourself!
