Addendum to my Previous Report

Now this is the actual State of the Studio these days:

In the midst of it.  Of course I art-ified it to make it a bit more glamorous...

And here's another view around the corner a bit more...
more clutter that can't be glamored

See the sewist's power source after the break.

Ahh, there they are in close up splendor.   My power totems.  Did you spot them in the studio pictures above?

The action stick figure
She kinda reminds me of a primitive version of Melanie's self portrait drawings on Bags and a Beret.

Do you have special power sources in your surroundings or carry/wear on your person?  I'm sure you do.

  1. What a fabulous space, especially artified! Everything looks a lot more impressive seen through a haze. Brilliant totems, love the bootylicious naked lady! xxx

    1. That's what I thought, smoke and mirrors will do the trick. I thought the flying naked lady wearing jewelry reminded me of you - except she'd have to be a bit more in shape to do you justice! I guess you'd have to say your whole house and all you wear is your power source, Vix.

  2. I'm going to have to give this some power thought. Does a sock monkey count as a power source?
I remember as a kid taking a nap at the babysitter's house and getting to hug the owner's sock monkey. So now I just have to have one in my bedroom up high on a shelf. I think it represents those tiny little private moments of clarity we all have along our way. And it tells me it's okay to be a little goofy and odd.

    1. It most certainly does. Awww, what a sweet story. You mean it tells you it's okay to be you, Joni darling.

  3. Your studio looks very glamourous through the haze. I imagine you are happy working there? I am sortng mine out at the moment so for a few weeks it will look as if no one uses it.
I like your flying naked lady: she looks like a power source to be reckoned with. I've got some power sources in my room - a photo of my Grandma, a picture from a birthday card of a woman sewing in what I think of as perfect cirumstances and a wonky green tweed owl made by me.

    1. Yes, yes, I am happy working there. It would be nice if a maid visited regularly for a straightening out, but I supposed I'd never find anything. That's what my 15 minutes a day/week of sorting an area is supposed to be about. Apparently I haven't started that bit yet.

I love hearing what people have as their touchstones. Yours sound very special indeed.

  4. Your first figure reminds me of the Guatemala worry dolls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worry_doll) my mom used to give me to put under my mattress.

    I love your flying lady!

The paintings on my walls give me a lot of inspiration. They both contain circular designs, vibrant colors, and large canvases. They both are very 'space' like, continuing my love and obsession with stars.

I'm an earth sign according to both varieties of the Zodiac, and it's hard not to get bogged down by the earth. So I keep a little Space in my sights when I can to keep me dreaming.

    1. Yes, I remember those little worry dolls that came packed in a little oval wood box. I don't think I have any any more. I guess that means I'm worry free now.

Every time someone brings up their special item, I think oh yeah, and there's that too, about something else I've forgotten to mention. Like artwork. Cool paintings that also influence your stylin'.

  5. I'm so happy that you're back. It's just not the same around here without you.

I like the idea of power sources. I think I find power in my hats, as though they each have their own personality and special contribution to my life. The hat room does feel like a sacred space to me. Your studio looks like one of those sacred spaces too; the area where creativity thrives and is supported by your totems.

    1. Yes, of course, your head dresses are your power sources. And where they are kept would be a most sacred place, not a work space. It would be just trembling with exotic, exquisite energy, I'm sure.

  6. The photo of your space is beautiful!!! It seems like everything you touch is art; I love it. I would have to say that my silver jewelry, my bracelets especially, could be considered a power source, especially since I've had many of them for years and years. I definitely feel their energy and on the rare occasions when I don't wear them, it seems odd. Also, the photos of my children when they were small. I have a few on a small shelf over my kitchen sink.

As always, thank you for your artful energy!! I love your totems, especially the first one. Did you make it? If so, do you have others, maybe for sale or barter? Just wondering. It's really, really special. :-)

    1. How different it seems to be looking at it rather than being in it. But that's how things become art I think. It's in taking the time to look and perceive and appreciate the awesomeness of what's there, and noting the unique beauty of the relationship between things. Somehow bringing that out so it can be recognized and seen by others.

Anyway, that's as close as I can come to describing art making.

I like that you wear your power sources daily. And shrines. Having your children's pictures on a small altar above the sink.

Yeah, I did make the action stick figure one day out of sticks and metallic thread and a little downy feather, oh and a seed pod for the head. I made a whole mess of what I called voodoo dolls one time out of found objects. You can see them on my art site under "oddments" at http://patottoart.com

  7. Ah, so this is where Pat's magic happens :)

Since I have a desk job, I spend a lot of time staring at my maneki neku because he makes me feel like smiling intead of screaming. Powerful stuff.

    1. Magic? How about thrills and spills?
Okay, are speaking of the skeleton in your closet, I mean office? I would say that's pretty powerful stuff and certainly puts things in perspective.

  8. I love seeing other's studios!!

My OCD tendencies come out full force in The Craft Palace (aka the spare bedroom that is now my studio) Everything is labeled and organized--maybe that's my power source?? My colored pencils and markers sorted into their color families!!

    1. Oh, oh, I do that too - put things in color wheel order. My fabric, located on the other side of the room on a shelving unit, is organized by color. So are my fabric scraps - in crates by color. My thread is in its place by color, etc., etc. So are the clothes in my closet. All my art supplies by category, then color. I even had all my books arranged by color for awhile, but it was somewhat difficult to locate items!
