Hey, Don't Say I'm Shapeless!

~ I'm a Square! ~

More or less.  Okay, okay, more on the order of a rectangle.  But isn't she lovely, that fabric of mine?  She just screamed out to be something that didn't interrupt her flow with unnecessary seams and such.

~ Her wish was my command ~

Keeping it as simple as possible, I even camouflaged the big patch pocket (on one side).  But couldn't resist throwing a little something something into the mix with another fabric pattern for the other pocket.  I edged the neckline and sleeve hems with narrow black seam binding and have side slits going above the knee so I can walk comfortably.

~ Just chillin' at the sidewalk cafe ~
Yeah.

Notice that flower clip in my hair?  I never wear anything in my hair, it's so fine and thin.  But I tried it and it stayed in!  Suzanne Carillo made one for all of us (among other things) at the Blogger Meet-up in Vancouver.

~ shozzz ~

Faded purple canvas multi-buckled zip-up the other side shoes by Blowfish from ebay.

Ed. note:  Pao was remiss in not mentioning the McCall's pattern #7020 view A she used for the bones of the dress (even though it's for a knit top)!

Pao also wants to thank photo-er Sara and her crew, Viv X for their delightful takes on her ensemble.  Thank you.

  1. You are not shapeless. Are those artichokes? Oh my. You are a tossed salad of loveliness. Those shoes!!

    1. heehee, so far everyone who has seen me has asked the same question. Are those artichokes? And then, no they're lotus blossoms. And yes, that's what they're supposed to be. But I'm okay either way, they're both lovely as far as I'm concerned, and go well with purple Blowfish.

  2. Excellent! I only thought "fantasy flowers". Love the uncut fabric and both pockets, as well as the shoes, of course!

    1. Yes, I think of the pockets as fraternal twins. No wait, can't it be sorority twins, or something like it. I don't think they have the same connotations. Such is our sexist language...

  3. A rectangle is definitely a shape so you aren't shapeless. Are you perhaps shameless? When you aren't pushing imaginary walls to the side, I love the way the dress drapes on you. Artichokes are quite lovely actually, but so are lotus blossoms. And yes, Suzanne put a fantastic industrial strength grip thing on the flowers. It's awesome! xo

    1. ooo, you mean it was just a typo, a 'p' for an 'm' ? ooo. You must be a creative writer type person.

  4. You wear the square...er, rectangle with style and aplomb, pao! And you'd better not get near me with those shoes or I'd be mugging you for them. So cute! I have the same trouble with clips holding in my hair. Unfortunately I have to re-glue a part of my rose that's coming apart before it can be worn again. I need to test it to see if it will stay like yours did.

  5. Best rectangle ever! I love how you've chosen a design to show off that fantastic fabric, well, and yourself too. And the daring non-matchy-but-perfect pocket. The flower looks great in your hair. With a clip and a pin Suzanne's flowers can go anywhere. Great photos, Pao.

    1. ooo, I am daring. Like wearing a bright red onesie downtown shopping...or wearing 2 different shoes, same style, yeah.

  6. I love the fabric. There's nothing wrong with a loose rectangle dress. I think it allows the fabric to do the speaking.

And the shoooes. Goodness the shoes.

  7. That is one fab dress and yep, I thought they were artichokes too (I'm an ex- chef, not a gardener!) Love the miss-matched pocket and those shoes! xxx

    1. Sure, I think the design goes way back in time. But thanks for reminding me that I didn't give credit where it's due. I'll add that on now...

  9. Another fabulous creation by the artist Pao. It's always an amazing surprise when I visit your world. Love your choice of fabric for the second pocket. Be still my heart!

    1. It is true Judith, we do live in different worlds. It's very nice they intersect though, very nice indeed.

  10. Artichokes? Nope. Hops? Nope. Pretty flowers? YES! But what are the blue dots? Jewels? Lanterns??? ...That was how my trail of thought wandered. :o) I conclude that I love it all whatever it is!

  11. Hello back my friend!
Always and always creative and inspiring.
Loove the mismatch pocket and allowing the fabric to breathe.
I am very attracted to minimalist design because I can't bear fitting. I do a lot with rectangles ;-) xo Jazzy Jack

    1. We'll have to have a fashion show for squares, I mean, rectangles.

  12. OK, another thing I learned. You can sew and pretty good too (edging the neckline and hems of the sleeves is something I never mastered). You are right, the fabric is such fun. And indeed as Shawna says, a rectangle is a shape too. Cannot really make out what the pattern of the pocket is.

    1. Ah, using bias tape is easy and automatically gives a snappy finish. The pocket pattern is some fantasy threshold to a palace or something by Tina Givens.

  13. It would be a shame to interrupt such groovy fabric with waistbands, etc.; the pockets are the important things! A rectangle is definitely a shape (I remember my geometry class!) and there is something very satisfying about pulling a swath of fabric over your head and going about your day.
