As the new year opens, I want to acknowledge the wonderful friends who have sent fantastic fabric and fabulous frockery my way.
You won't believe the spectacle of amazingness you are about to see. Many thanks go to Melanie from blogland; P from school; and my gal gang E, S and V.
See all the pics after the break...
First up is the extraordinary thrifted coat from V:

The gang from the Sewing Rebellion had decided to give each other thrifted or hand-made gifts this holiday season. It was a blast! And we're already thinking about next year.
A voluptuous thrifted velvet beaded jacket with matching top from P in my watercolor class:

It's very large, but I wear it anyway. The top has a full length detachable zipper so it can be worn backwards as a jacket too.
And a divine thrifted, ankle-length, lace knit dress from P:

Fits perfectly after I accidentally shrunk it in the wash.
From the loverly Melaine of Bag and a Beret:
|
4 golden lengths of different fabrics |
Each is more luscious than the next. I haven't been able to make up my mind on what to make from which piece yet. That's my totem on top, resting, guarding, blessing them all.
Wishing you all a fantastic new year!
yeah.

What incredible and inspiring pieces! I am especially drawn to that vest. Looking forward to seeing your projects this year.
ReplyDeleteI know, I couldn't believe how wonderful each piece was and how they were so like me. The vest reminded me of ties with that trim along the front and sides/back. It seems like it would be really easy to make. The sides are just two rectangles with patch pockets at the bottom and you can see how the back and front are also rectangles of cloth.
DeleteSo beautiful, and all entirely YOU! What moving abundance. :)
ReplyDeleteI know. I'm not worthy. But I still want to keep them all, okay?
DeleteUmmm...can I be friends with your friends? Exquisite taste, all around. Blogland is truly Wonderland, or Oz. Who knew? Can't wait to see your iterations.
ReplyDeleteWell, they aren't bloggers, Jean. I get to see them in person. Like this afternoon at Stella's for a big cup of steaming Chai, mmmmm. And we'll get to see who's wearing what from our fabulous gift exchange! Then again, if I was a world traveler like yourself, I could be visiting all my blogger friends just like that! I'm afraid to cut into that gorgeous fabric sent my way from Ms. Melanie. I'll have to work up to it.
DeleteOkay, you have awesome friends! What exquisite pieces worthy of countless expletives of appreciation. I can see you wearing each one. I love your totems on the fabric vibing it up. Hugs. Happy new year.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes! Now that you mention it, that totem does remind me a little of you. I'll have to get a better shot of her. She's wearing a multi-colored metallic thread mini and has a feather sticking out of her head. And she's always twirling around on one foot.
DeleteScore! They are all such beautiful pieces. I think I love the coat with the woven inlays best though all are worthy of admiration. Such great friends you have!
ReplyDeleteYes, you're the weaver. Would you ever do something like that with bits and pieces of woven designs? I realized I haven't a single woven anything along those lines. Yes, we're a troupe.
DeleteOooooh, as I scrolled down through the pix my eyes filled with delight! That first coat... OMG. Looking forward to your adventures with all these goodies!
ReplyDeleteAnd I really must finish your Fashion Icon portrait which has been languishing in vector land way too long.
Yes, that's why I just had to take pix and show them off.
Deleteahhh, languishing is not so bad...glamorous even, in a victorian/hollywood sort of way, don't you think?
Wow! You have very good friends. I love the coat & the velvet jacket especially. I look forward to seeing what you make from the fabric.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes I do. I'm thinking something kimono-esque for the golden-orange brocade type fabric on the bottom. And something with an exposed detachable zipper on the sheer fabric with gold raised dots (second one down). Other than that, I don't know exactly.
Deletesuch beautiful pieces!!! they are stunning works of art!!! Can't wait to see what you make from the fabrics!!!
ReplyDeleteI get sew-er's block every time I get close to those golden fabrics.
DeleteAll the clothes are sooooooooooooo wonderful, Pao, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to see you wearing and creating with them.

I've worn everything at least once so far, most more. But the special fabric, I keep bringing it out, but am scared to cut it.
