A Matisse Dress for Summer

~ with my lady bag ~

This is the kind of dress little girl me would love.

~ even though you know I have pockets ~

And old girl me loves it too.

~ give us a twirl, girls ~

The dress is from Tina Givens Morgan dress pattern, with many liberties taken in the making of it.

Let's see...I raised the waistline, lengthened the skirt, added pockets for goodness sake, lengthened the sleeves and added tucks, eliminated the back patch and continued the back neck pleats down to the waist, left out 1 of the 3 skirt panels due to lack of fabric, did my own collar installation, interfaced the center front plackets that hold the buttons and buttonholes.   I didn't put in the recommended hem gathers or the overlapped skirt section.  That's about it for alterations.

~ here's the Matisse part ~

oh, and the fabric is challis.  nice.

~ I've got my back covered ~

with the addition of a skull & cross bone button at the back of the neck.   You know, to counteract the any twee.

~ c'est fini avec les shoes from ebay ~

Without further ado, I'll skip to my lou, to Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style.  Then to Catherine's I'll Wear What I Like, but of course.  And finally, Cherie's Shoe and Tell.  See you all there.

  5. I am trying to crawl in to steal your fabric: I am the only member of my family who does not wear pink (here it is a manly color), but I could make an exception for Matisse.....

  6. Wow! That dress is just popping out of the screen at me, so much so that I originally thought it was a "Maltese" dress! Love it and that cute little skull trim! I've admired those woven shoes on a couple of women this Summer, I'm going to have to hunt a pair down! xxx

    1. Maltese, Matisse...what's a few letters. And here I thought it was fearsome skull...ah, well, it was the only one I had on hand. The shoes are really comfy. $11 new on good ole ebay.

very good job in making your own version of the pattern - all the described skipped features sound way to much for a fabulous print like that! :-)

  11. Hahaha, awesome fabric. I love this Tina Givens pattern, although it's more of a Pao pattern now with all the wonderful tweaks you've given it and the bad-assery with skull neck. And of course your shoes! Always your shoes, so perfect with this.

  12. Love the surprise of the skull button at the back! I am envious of the skill with which you tweak a pattern to make it your own. The candy colours in the pattern make me smile.
Just how many pairs of awesome shoes DO you own???
