Day 31 MMM'19: And So It's Time...

I made the jacket long ago from a big 4 pattern, but I no longer have it to share with you.

Pants are made from New Look 6533.   Stretch mesh top you've seen before, here.

~ I'll be seeing you ~

But not every day.  At least not until next May.

Too Much To Dream Ensemble

on MeMadeMay'18, Day #18

Well, the jacket is from Tina Givens Gypsy Jacket pattern, modified and made in linen.  The camisole is self-drafted, made from organza.  And the pants are self-drafted as well, made in cotton.  I have never worn these things together before.  Will I again? 

~ I'll have to think about it ~

The shoes are not from ebay, but old ones of mine that were originally black.  I painted them with some heavy metal paints that go verdigris with applications of this and that.  They are also ready to retire, but I luv them so...

Kimono Me Now (with Oxfords)

MeMadeMay'18, Day #17

Reached back in the vault for this one.  Made along while ago and revamped as I grew and it didn't.  The top went from wrap around to meeting in the center.  Still groovy though.

The fabric is a crinkle cotton, lightweight, soft and comfy.

~ my goodness those shoes look like Mack trucks! ~

They are not from ebay.  I don't remember where they came from, but they are old.  I know they were wrecked-up suede and I painted them with acrylic paints.  I had some lavender grosgrain ribbon that I used for the laces.  They are comfortable, but beginning to show they're age.  Do you think it's time they were retired?

Not Every Ensemble is a Poster Child

Well, let's take another look-see.

Okay then.  The top dress is a fix-it-up-because-it-doesn't-quite-work Tina Givens April Dress pattern made from unused bed linens.   The underdress is self-drafted and made from a fancy white linen tablecloth that had scalloped edges.   The necklace is a grosgrain ribbon that was fastened onto gold elastic and tied onto a gift.

No, they did not come from ebay, but deep within my closet along time ago when they were messed up black suede.  I used various colors of acrylic paint and voila.

Women In Clothes Dresses

A friend asked if I had the book.  Why yes, as a matter of fact, I do.

My ensemble was made last Spring.

In fact, my doctor referred me to a Sports Specialist.  Meanwhile I'm feeling no pain, being put on drugs until the appointment comes 'round.  Although since there's no pain, I have been sneaking in a little sewing here and there a few hours at a time.  Can't go longer than that cuz I'm exhausted too.  geez.

The over dress is the Peplone Dress/ Jacket pattern from Tina Givens made out of linen.

The dress underneath is a rendition of the Briare Slip/ Dress pattern also from Tina Givens, made out of broadcloth.

Graciously received at the World's First 40+ Bloggess Meet-up in Vancouver in July of 2015.  It goes with everything!

~ les sox et shoes ~

Oh, hey, I painted those shoes with some weird-o paints.  Chemtex paints, yeah.  Touted as real metallic finishes with real patinas that oxidize.  So these were painted copper that turned verdigris.  Cool,  Otherwise they were old black plastic.

And now is the time for all good women to join Patti and the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style.  And Catherine at I Will Wear What I Like.  Cherie's Shoe and Tell when it goes live.  I do believe I must have beige in the mix somewhere, so let's hop on over to Anne's 52 Pick-me Up: Beige.  Yeah, Baby.

Yes, Yes, It's Another Tablecloth Dress

Oh dear, oh dear, I'm so behind in picture-taking.  And I found these pix already downloaded and edited, but not yet posted!  How did that happen?

How could I resist?  A gray and white with pink and red print trio of tablecloths.  I mean, we've got stripey things, checkerboards, flowers and big abstract shapes with flourishes going on here.

The Artist Not Wearing Banksy or Hirst

I've been toiling away in my studio for the past week or so on a little something something.  Ready?  Oh, but first, let me show you the latest Style Imitating Art inspiration...

Roller Rat by Banksy

Everyone's probably familiar with England's (in)famous street artist, Banksy.  But perhaps you were like me and unaware of this particular piece which has a hilarious back story.  Given a museum show in Bristol, Banksy had several rooms of his work, plus he put things amongst the museum's regular collection.

Lo and behold, the art world's darling, Damien Hirst, had one of his ridiculously expensive spot paintings housed there.  And that is what it looks like now after Banksy painted over it adding his trademark rat.  hee hee hee.

A Bit of This and That

...is what I've been doing lately.  Finishing things up really.

Two more pairs of shoes.  Some altering and mending.  A clutch bag,  kimono top, found shirt in a give-away box, a couple of tunics, my lady boots.  I think that's it.  All completed in the last few days.  So do click on the Fall Clothes page, under "A Bit of This and That" for quite an eye-full.

Monochromatic Wine...?

Yes, I guess that's what you'd call it.  What I wore to class today:  a variety of wines in my wardrobe choices of home-made concoctions.  See for yourself.

Except for the jewelry - the necklace of red glass beads was store bought a hundred years ago and the bracelet I found in a give-away box.  The kimono-type satin and suede jacket was made-from-scratch pre-Project Minima.  So were the dress and pants, but they were later re-styled.  (Click on the bold words to see what happened and how).  And more painted shoes!

These used to be beat-up black suede oxfords and I painted them with my finger massage method in Cadmium Red Deep with some Magenta for the strap.  I coated them with clear gloss acrylic medium at the end.

Prehistoric Me

A fabulous inspiration was chosen for Style Imitates Art this time:

~ a painting from Lascaux cave in France  ~

While I'm at it, I want to encourage everyone to see Werner Herzog's documentary on the most recent cave discovered in France housing the oldest cave drawings known (30,000 years old), called Cave of Forgotten Dreams.   (The Lascaux cave paintings are dated at a mere 17,300 years old.)  The film itself is incredible, not to mention its subject.  You can get it on netflix.  Miraculous.  Let me know what you think.

Yeahhhh...I'm too crazy cool for school.  I'm too nerdy quirk for work.  I'm too overblown for home.  But I'm outta sight for here, right!

Shoe Be Do Be Do...

what were the chances...I'd be re-do-ing shoes...before the night was through?...ah, yes.  I have had a serious case of shoe lust lately.

So to keep myself in line, I've dived into the depths of my closet to reclaim some lost soles.  Surely no one needs sooo many pairs of black and/or brown shoes!  Where are all the beautiful colors I crave?!

Back to School Day

What I wore my first day back to college where I teach painting & drawing.

I dressed feet first today.  Why?  Well, just take a look at those awesome shoes I'm wearing.  I upcycled them yesterday.

I have been so craving new shoes lately.  Really massively lusting after them.  So...I went through the back of my closet and found a bunch

On Site at Graceland

I'm posing...

Here I am at Chicago's famous Graceland Cemetery standing in front of one of the more unusual monuments that grace its grounds.  Our sketching club has resumed Saturday morning outings here when class is out for summer.  I swear the temp. is a good 10 degrees cooler, the setting is beautiful with a man made lake, island, old, old trees, and exquisite monuments.  Plus no one ever comes here.  It's always quiet and empty.  And right in the middle of the city, near my house, and you can park!!!

Meanwhile, I'm wearing my newly remodeled sandals I posted about yesterday.  And a top and capris that I originally made from scratch and then refashioned to fit.  (Click on the items to get to the particular post.)
