Happy New Year & Hence Forth...

~ Sewcialists Goals ~

Yes, on to 2020 and so on (in no particular order).

I'm gonna:

  • spend a minimum of 15 minutes a day in the sewing room.  I know it will all add up to something.  Even if it's sewing-related and not sewing itself.  Like organizing the space, or cutting out a pattern, or choosing the fabric for it, cleaning up, etc.

  • I've resumed my intensive exercise and nutritional regime for the next 3 months (as I did in the beginning of last year).  So I need to...

  • spend time reassessing what I've made and what I can/want to wear now that I've lost weight and inches over the last year and kept it off.  Since I'm continuing that program, I'll probably be losing more weight throughout this year, so I want to keep on top of things.

  • spend time remodeling the clothes I want to keep so they fit the newer me.

  • make some everyday, normal things I've always wanted.  Like stretch mesh t-shirts.

    • use that amazing fabric, at least for one project.

  • oh yeah, stop buying patterns and fabric, oh my.

  • and here's a big one, be more creative in my sewing.  Actually this relates directly to stop buying more stuff.  I've always felt, less stuff = more creativity.   Remind myself to think of sewing as I thought of my art-making and the creative process.

I do believe that should be enough already.

The only thing I'm already feeling some resistance toward is using the precious fabric.  Probably because it causes me to step back.  It doesn't free me up like all the other points do.  Think I'll just cross that one off the list for now.  Yep.

I'll leave you with this post I wrote for the New Year several years ago which sounds pretty familiar.

  1. I've really enjoyed reading your blog this year. I've definitely found that your equation of less stuff = more creative applies to my cooking! Wishing you a creative new year, Wendy

    1. Hi Wendy, Nice to know you've enjoyed the blog this year. Yeah, I think anything that's creative blossoms even more with some restrictions, like a limitation on options. Happy cooking to you!

  2. The only person you have to satisfy is yourself. I didn't need to tell you that, but I guess that I'm telling me that. I do spend time refolding The Precious Ones in the stash. Having a couple of happy places to send the stash I don't use (most of it very old) has been a great relief to my Smaug heart, and I am getting ready for that this month. Someone will want it and use it, just like I have used the thrifted yardage I've picked up.
All the healthy stuff for all of us.

    1. I haven't reached the "getting rid of old stash" stage yet. (Heavens forbid) But it's nice to know that the concept is out there, somewhere in an alternate universe. I am building up to it though...

  3. Great set of goals, a few I should aspire to. Not doing too well on the use what you have front and its only 4 January. I've enjoyed seeing your creativity over the past year and look forward to what comes out of your sewing room in 2020. Happy New Year.
P.S. Use that precious fabric. It might be daunting but I find it liberating once the first cut has been made.

    1. Well, it is dancing around in my head - the precious fabric, that is. We'll see if it comes out in 2020. The no fabric/no patterns is going to be the hardest for me. But if I don't see it, I won't buy it. And I have so many re-modelings to do and not a single spot for new fabric to accumulate...

  4. Great list!
Do you have an Instagram account? I think seeing all of your creations on one page would be wonderful and show just how different each outfit is.

    1. Glad you like the list, cynthia.
I don't have an Instagram account. I didn't know that allows you to see everything on one page.
One of the ways I've chosen to simplify my life has been to not use Instagram, Facebook, a cellphone, Cable TV or newspapers. Keeping to the Bloggerhood, Pinterest and email takes up plenty of time as it is. And I want room for creativity, sewing, my exercise/nutritional routine...

    1. Well I guess you're right Shelbee. It's Day 5 and I haven't even looked at any fabric yet. I accidentally looked at some patterns, but no buying, no siree. The best to you in 2020 and hence forth!

  6. Love these goals, and this: the more choices we have, the harder it is to get creative. One of my goals is to do more with less. And I am wowed by your physical fitness, and no TV or newspapers! Great choices. xox
