~ Watson and the Shark by John Singleton Copley ~ |
Yep. See how I worked this one after the break...
"Well, how did I get here?" |
Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again, after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground.
And you may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again, after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground.
And you may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"
...
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...
- Once In A Lifetime, Talking Heads
and a closer look at worried cat and me |
Meanwhile, here's what I'm wearing: lots of old store-bought things
this time, including dress as jacket, short pants, and plain brown
slip-ons; plus re-refashioned tunic top and tights cut into over-the-knee socks. (click on bold items to see where and how they came into being)
Come on over and see what others did with Copley's shark picture at Style Imitates Art after Monday. And as always, I'll be joining the Visibles at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style and Monday Mingle.
I get worried that I'm not up to snuff when I see your posts. I feel like your wide-eyed worried cat. I don't recognize the art and I want to be IN, like totally hip to the references. You're too cool and I feel pedestrian. That's good, FYI. I need an art-shot in the arm. That's why I love you. You look cool in your glasses.
ReplyDeleteYou mean that's not one you'd want hanging in your living room?! Hey, believe me, I didn't choose this masterpiece as an inspiration for styling. Nor would I have chosen to wear such an ensemble had it not been for the specifics of the painting...so I guess it did what was intended. I do love my cat in the act, though. Oh, and I just wear glasses so I look smart.
DeleteThis is your best incorporation yet! Seriously well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat else could I do?
DeleteGoodness! What a dramatic picture! The shark is kind of scary.
ReplyDeleteDo love the combination of blue and brown in your outfit and the varying proportions of the hem lengths you've used - the dress as frock coat is a great idea!
Yes, it reminds me of "The Raft of Medusa" which is way more intense. I just wonder why the guy is completely undressed - was he bathing?
DeleteAhhh, and that was my attempt at fitting in with the stylin' of the guys in clothes. Not bad, yes?
And your outfit...fantabulosity at the piano - now that would be a great painting!
The Talking Heads accompaniment is *brilliant*, I am going to sing it all day. And love the worried face of worried cat. Great post as always, and the shark gave me a good shiver. Thanks Pao!
ReplyDeletela da da da da. I know what you mean.
DeleteOh, poor kitty, I think she's concerned about what's going on in that painting. And thank you as always, Patti for hosting Visible Monday!
You are super-stylish, cool & hilarious! I love the Talking Heads lyrics, they go perfectly with the scary picture. I love your interpretation and am off to check out the others, I'd probably be tempted to strip off and float in the pond at the bottom of the garden! x
ReplyDeleteWell then Vix, you should definitely join us for Style Imitates Art next time around! Click on the button at the bottom of my page for their FAQs. or I'll send you a heads up when the next one is out. It'll be too much fun!
DeletePao, you are just so awesome - excellent interpretation of the painting and perfect insertion! Kitty has the best expression in his sea-green eyes, perhaps he was on the boat in spirit (I would not have been able to resist). This outfit has a nice simplicity and great proportions - love how the hemlines interact.
ReplyDeleteP.S. that song is a particular favourite of mine. :)
oh no - just saw your Visible Monday thumbnail at Patti's and almost fell over - priceless!!!
DeleteI know you're not suppose to post pictures of your pets...but how could I resist? I am now truly a rebel fashion force.
DeleteNever let your pets into your photographs; they will upstage you every single time...lol. That cat is totes priceless.
ReplyDeleteI love your art inspiration posts. That color is so beautiful on you.
Oh, is that way they tell you not to do it? And here I thought it was about being professional. Silly me. Well, I thought we matched so well - her eyes and my frock coat...
DeleteYou looked so perfect in the picture that it took me a moment to realize it was you! Your kitty could not have done a better pose if he had tried!
ReplyDeleteYou are an amazing woman!
I am not sure why, but the first thing I thought of when I saw your outfit was "Pilgrim". I am not sure how you arrive at your outfit ideas, but I am thankful that you share them with us.
Oh, I know - she makes me guffaw every time I look at her in that pic.
DeleteYeah, I think it's the white stockings with short pants and plain shoes that makes me look so Puritan. And just the simplicity of the whole outfit.
I would have never come up with this combo had it not been for the inspiration of the painting. That's one of the fun things I find about participating in "Style Inspires Art." You should join in, Debbi.
That is one of the best feline photobombs I've seen in a while. A+ to kitteh! (Though whenever a pet gets in a photo, I can't focus on the clothes.)
ReplyDeleteIt's true!
DeleteMust. Follow. You're amazing. I see you're already following Melanie Bag and Beret, so you've got great taste
ReplyDeleteAs do you Miss Simmonds, as do you. I'll be over to your place now!
DeleteI never realized that your outfits interpret art, what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours of this outfit, and of course the cat that caught my eye!
Well, it's an every other week challenge that is thrown out to whomever wants to play - and I always do!
DeleteYes, she's a cutie pie alright. I didn't even realize she was in the picture until I edited it.
My dear i so love dropping by for a good dose of artful interpretation...Kudos my dear!
ReplyDeleteand over due thanks for your thoughtful comments on my blog...during a very trying time...your generous spirit is much appreciated...and remembered!
Always a pleasure, Tamera to meet up with you.
DeleteI'm so behind - just now getting to the Visible Monday, and sooo glad I am. This is true inspiration. I didn't see you at first, you are so cleverly integrated. One look at your newfangled camera gadget and the guys in the boat would have abandoned the maiden. Or they would have thought you're a witch and thrown you in too to see if you sink or float! I love this outfit, even more with the painting and lyrics.
ReplyDeleteOh, probably cuz in your last post, your were a little tipsy, what with the birthday party and your missing pom-poms...
DeleteI think they were too preoccupied to notice my camera. And I was dressed so spot on, I fit right in. 'Course they were wondering about that tune I was humming.
