Nothing Dramatic Here

Just a little something I hadn't posted yet.  I know it seems a little tame now, comparatively speaking.  But I like it all the same.  ahhhh, so comfy.

~ teddy bears Mom made for kids in the hospital ~
Well, these too.  I found a whole bed full of them at Mom's house when I opened the door to my old room.

But what I'm really talking about is the first of my flannel shirt rehab experiments.  Everybody ready for a look-see?  Now, it's nothing dramatic; don't go expecting too much...okay?

grey flannel with grey corduroy and some other stuff*

drenched in bright sunlight

and at rest next to the cat tree

*other stuff includes:  scraps of chiffon, lace, satin ribbon, floral drapery and cotton, hand-made bias tape, flagrant blue stitching over all holes in flannel shirt, and new old buttons.

This one probably took me the longest to put together because I didn't know what I was doing or where I was going with it.  The pants are made from the same grey-ish corduroy as the top using a Marcy Tilton pattern posted somewhere on the blog along while back.  Black suede clogs messed up and then beautified with rose appliques made from Mom's old sweatshirt.  Also blogged previously.

You can view this grey flannel dress/ top on my Clothes from Fall page, up close and in detail.  Meanwhile I'm joining Patti and all the Visibles at Not Dead Yet Style.  Don't miss it, I tell ya.  Maybe I can even fit in with Spy Girl's 52 Pick me up: Frozen, that is, if it's about keeping warm rather than Disney...

  1. You tried to lower our expectations but I am still impressed : > And the lovely little bears, what a kind act by your mother. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xox.

  2. Now that takes some serious sewing skills to take off without knowing exactly where it was going. I love it!
How sweet to find those bears in your old bed. Now that's what I call LOVE.

    1. There was enough for a huge garbage bag that we got to give away. But I still have a big basket of smaller ones she hadn't finished yet that I've kept on a shelf in the library. They all happen to be light blue.

  7. I love how your creations so often evoke non western silhouettes; this one reminds me of a shalwar kameez. Just lovely!

    1. Interesting, your observations, Gam Kau. I had to look up the word, of course. I was just thinking the other day when I had on one of my latest pieces, that I was looking very modern-day/ traditional Pakistani woman-like. If that makes sense.

  8. There's so much charm in the way you combine all the diverse and unexpected elements ... never a dull moment, and this is not dull, but divine. There's more than the corduroy and flannel (as if that's not enough) but there's the completely unexpected sweep of that curve of the hem ... a surprise but so at home in that unfamiliar context.
We'll let you know when you're lacking drama. So far, NOT yet!
Dying at the perfection of the applique on the clog toe. Really!
